Before you flame me for posting in the wrong section read the whole thing please.
I'm on a trial account and CCP is really giving me a bad preview so far. Servers are unreachable for me for the second time during three days. And the second time, which is happening at this very moment has already lasted for 13 hours (no, I don't sleep much). Funny enough I can use the internet for whatever other purpose with no problems whatsoever. Even more funny is the fact that I can trace route to the Tranquility with a score I'd like to have as a default for any online gaming (5 hops with no ping higher than 18ms? sign me up). I took my forum shovel and dug through countless posts mentioning the exact/similar issues. I'm not a network guru, but I've got enough common sense to tell that the problem lies miles away on a tiny cold island (I'll embrace your feet if you prove me wrong though).
OK, so here's a question - does this happen often? Because as much as EVE seems like something I definitely want to play, I'd actually like to get to play it...
PS. I'm really looking forward to embrace someone's feet, come on, you know you want to. |

I've heard of certain ISPs throttling connections to gaming servers to keep bandwith down during peak hours. Might be that.
If you're trying to get on now, well, it's the daily 1 hour downtime. _______________________________ I need new voices in my head, To speak my secret evils with. I need new lovers in my bed, To be my friends and special pets. |

I can play any other online game no matter the time I decide to do so. And how is 7AM peak time anyway? =)

Was just a though. I don't really know what the problem could be. Have you tried making a post in the tech help forum or whatever it's called? _______________________________ I need new voices in my head, To speak my secret evils with. Just as an aside, remember that people from all over the world play EVE. While it may be 7 AM to you, in Australia for instance this is smack in the middle of their peak hours. _______________________________ I need new voices in my head, To speak my secret evils with. Also keep in mind that some ISP's are sneaky enough to disable throthling on MAINSTREAM MMORPG's. That means that your connection to WoW will go flawless, but as soon as you play EVE (which is, sadly, niche market) all those WOW players will actually steal your bandwidth away. If you are in holland, i hear that especially Tiscali is notorious for this.

I actually work for one of the leading ISP's in the UK I can say that the ports used for this are not throttled or controlled on our network
but as said earlier some ISP are sneaky enough to do that, I have had some issues soemtimes where it has been unable to view server but i traced it down to my dodgy firewall blocking it even though i had set it up as a good stream
Double check your firewall, there shouldnt be any reason why you should not be able to connect through (that i know of anyway)you can also just google Eve Status this will give a site that tells you if server is up or down or indeed if its congested,
PS And as part of my job i deal with people complaining we have blocked the port and can honestly say in every case it has been users setup not the network causing problem

7am for me on the US East Coast is noon in Iceland and thats when they begin downtime. There is a 5 hour difference between east coast and Eve time, so if your on the east coast you are trying to login during Downtime, which usually lasts 1 hour.

The servers aren't in Iceland :)
You could try the known issues forum for further details, I believe there is a sticky about certain ISPs and throttling there.

Seem that Tiscali consider EVE a heavy bandwidt user or somesuch and trottle the connection from late morning to late afternoon where the Server are (London), so from 10 to 17 London time, if you are posting at 11.00 London and for you they are 7 AM it make it from 6 AM to 1 PM.
In every case it is problem with your connection as we are playing without problem.
Have you connected to the test server (Singularity)? To do that you need to change the IP destination and the test server is currently closed.
If not, for some reason you have chosen the test server as you initial connection (the normal server is Tranquility)?
Some firewall had problems with EVE (detecting it as a virus and refusing it access), so check your firevall and that the right port is open.
Barring that I don't know what other I can suggest.

They begin downtime 6am EST. It was 7am before they switched the clock one hour back in USA on Nov 4th and now dt is 6am eastern time. 6-7am the server will be unreachable. Sometimes the dt is shorter than 1 hour and sometimes it is a bit longer.
Also sometimes i get the client saying server status "Unknown" but if i try I am able to log on to my account. No idea why it shows status as unknown if i am able to connect.
