Just read the news about "The end of the season" of EVE TV and it had some fairly grim sounding comments like "Looking forward to its reincarnation" and hints that due to pay for view not working out they tried advertising which led them to "reevaluate the project"
I hope we do see EVE TV back again soon. Cloaks!! |

If that's the case, I get the impression that this is a last minute bombshell thing. They went to all the trouble of setting up the news clones system and organising other stuff which seems like medium term planning at least to all of a sudden go off the air? Cloaks!! |

It does seem sudden, but since they seem to have already settled on bringing it back and when, I doubt there is anything to worry about. -

I'm not surprised really, if it is getting canned. The main objective, as far as I can tell is to use Eve TV as a marketing tool that gives more depth to the player experience. Problem is they made it exclusive as soon as they released it. No one is going to, nor can get hooked on this new initiative if they can only view 5 minutes of it before having to pay for it.
I know I won't.
Instead, if you really want to put your marketing scheckles into promoting this kind of 'behind the scenes' look at Eve, suck it up, eat the cost and provide the service for free in order to raise awareness as to the depth of the Eve MMO. This way you can preview this stuff on alternate sites like MMORPG.com, video game review sites, etc etc. Get some publicity about Eve being a unique experience, one that warrents it's own television. Hell you could even roll it in with the whole financial fiscal report. When you think about it both of those things are story worthy and could gain a good bit of publicity if they were or are worked into a cohesive communications strategy.
offering the service as a pay choice just limits your audience base and ultimately your impact.

The fact that it's been free since episode somethingorother somehow has no bearing on this? -

Ever since they made Eve-TV free, paid by advertising, I've been watching it. It seems fine, and I like it. Just not enough to pay for it. As it is, it's coming back February, and as long as they don't charge people for watching it again... it'll be fine. ---

Its free, been free for ages. Which makes your soapbox 'high and mighty, all knowing' opinion all the more amusing.
Try and keep up eh?

I agree with Cal about the pay to view aspect, EVE TV is a good show it gives political news in a unbiased way and that's easily accessible without having to wade through COAD everyday. The basic market reports where great for giving insights people not involved in industrial aspects of the game and in general the news is great and was getting even better with the news clones.
But when it was pay to view it was to expensive as it came near to the cost of a months sub for EVE itself if you watched it each week but obviously the production budget has to come from some where.
But it was good for the player base in general why? well the PvPer knows his Megathron might start to cost more due to the market reports or the industrial guy gets the idea moon mineral prices might go up due to extended series of battles somewhere. Cloaks!! |

The mentioning of February is because of the upcoming tournament as far as I know. It doesn't sound likely that Eve TV will return as a regular show.

Eve TV was free from episode 13 onwards. Eve TV was not run by CCP, but independently by the small publisher that also makes the EON Eve magazine.

The fact that so many people missed that it has been free for a while now, may hint at a lack of sufficient marketing? I know there are rotating ads on the main page, but I would still have missed many episodes if I wouldn't have stumbled across it on the forums every once in a while.
I hope this "re-evaluation" has a positive outcome, I will miss it. One thing I would like to suggest is, to have more "about the game" content, like the ship profiles. As a new player, many of the news have also been very difficult to follow.

I never knew it was free... and even when it wasn't it was horribly biased, poorly filmed and fairly boring interviews (the ones that you could hear over the people blathering in the background anyways).
I'd rather them drop EVE TV and lower the price of EON at the same time. EON is pretty sweet.

Sounds kinda ominous :(
At the same time its the holiday season, they have trinity coming out, and I think someone was complaining about one of the advertisers being an isk selling corp.
So probably just putting it on hiatus so that all the news isn't about patches and stuff :), or how it sucks cause they changed this or that. Give folks some time to settle in, while they decide how to make a better program. :)
Thoughts expressed are mine and mine alone. They do not necessarily reflect my alliances thoughts. |

Er whose resources? CCPs? CCP doesnt make Eve TV, mmo publishing does - the makers of Eon.

And this is when fan-created TV broadcasts can be done. This is what EVE is about: Fancreated stuff.
Not the "for money" shows we saw from the EVE TV crew which grew out of the old eve radio crew..

Ace. And now we've got....oh nothing.
I always felt the 'professional' look was always portayed with a splash of self mocking irony, shame you missed that.
As you obviously know alot about the topic, when's your show coming out?
Well, I won't miss it obviously. As to your second question, when I have the proper budget, lets say oh realistically never. However if I'm ever just sitting on piles and piles of money I'd love to throw away into a nonbusiness venture it's on my todo list.
Fair enough, but I think Im going to have more respect for those that tried, and failed, than those that never try at all. And for that reason alone I'll miss Eve TV.

I'm not insulting them, I'm applauding them for coming to the right decision. It shows they're a quick bunch. They obviously put effort into it, it just didn't work out. |
