I've perused the internet and scoured the forums for various fixes and solutions.
System stats: Acer Extensa 5620 laptop Intel Core2 duo centrino processor Mobile Intel Graphics X3100 (reported to be compatible)
I have tried both wine 0.9.49 and the official wrapper offered on this site using ALSA and OSS and various combinations of graphic settings. Wine goes to the splash screen, displays the following :
fixme:process:IsWow64Process (0xffffffff 0x34fc34) stub! fixme:process:IsWow64Process (0xffffffff 0x34b7e0) stub! fixme:process:IsWow64Process (0xffffffff 0x34b7e0) stub!
and then crashes while the official installer displays a black window for ExeFile.exe /nosplash /noconsole before crash to desktop. I havent found the Eve debugging information. I would honestly double check that you're Intel GFX card is doing native 3D acceleration and not trying to use the Mesa software stuff. This might involve fiddling with the driver currently installed.
Heavy duty 3D acceleration in Linux seems to be the realm of Nvidia only without serious fiddling... which is annoying :S
Now once you've double checked that go to appdb (appdb.winehq.com) search for EVE and poke around the revisions for the changes to prefs.ini that sets audio and such to 0.
Oddly enough with these settings in EVE will still make noise.

And the problem slowly becomes more clear! Intel uses the mesa for their drivers. Looking at this and will report results: http://intellinuxgraphics.org/install.html ----- David - Proud to be saving the universe since 1984 Wrangler - Saving the drunks by drinking their beer since 1992 Saving the breweries by sending their produce to Wrangler since 2005 - Imaran |

Edited by: Snowcrash Winterheart2 on 22/11/2007 11:01:06 I have a sneaky suspicion that the intel driver is 2D only (or pulling heavily from Mesa). Or at least the one shipped with most distro's is.
I'd combine the Install instructions with the download page; building the various modules from source.
Pain in the rear I know.
If that doesn't work... I'm afraid your out of luck... which is annoying as the 965GM is supposed to be reasonably good. :(
