Both are fine.
I will prioritize the UserVoice features with most votes, but, I won't reply to every single feature idea.
I will reply on the forum and add the feature to UserVoice and/or my internal todo list myself.
You can do both, and link your UserVoice idea in the forum, for max exposure.
Extra info:
I look at a few things when I have time to add new features to jEveAssets:
-How much work is needed
-How good I think the idea is
-How many people voted for it on UserVoice
UserVoice is great for determine what most people want done
But, the UI is a bit hard to work with, so, I only check top ideas, when I have time to work on something new.

Nothing that I can think of, other than updating my PC (Win 7 Untilmate 64). I even downloaded the package again and get the same message. I've also uninstalled and reinstalled java. I did have a power failure so something might have got corrupted, but it's the only application that's displaying the message. |

It looks like the settings file have been corrupted.
You have two options now:
1) Delete the settings file (this will reset all data in jEveAssets)
2) Send the setttings files to me and let me try to restore them.
Settings files:
settings.xml and settings.bac (find them here)
Delete them (and lose everything) or send them to my email so, I can try to restore them (may not be possible, but, I'll try)

I am having what seems to be the exact same critical error issue as Conner Mileghere. Also similar story, am not aware of anything I did differently to cause the error.
Was the solution to edit something in the settings.xml file?

Deleting the settings files, is what fix it for Conner Mileghere, but, it does mean you lose a lot of data.
But, without a BugID, I have no clue, what you're facing.
If you post the BugID, I can look it up in the bug database, to see if I can provide a workaround or it's a bug I have to fix in jEveAssets.

Where would I find the BugID? When I get the 'critical error' window, it doesn't show anything inside that box, and will just continue to hang until I force close it through the Windows task manager. |

That can be fixed.
First options is to use jmemory.jar to run jEveAssets.
If that doesn't work, you can run jeveassets with the following command from the command line or a batch file:
java -Xmx4g -jar jeveassets.jar
you can also try one of the following, if the above doesn't work:
java -Xmx3g -jar jeveassets.jar
java -Xmx2g -jar jeveassets.jar
java -Xmx1g -jar jeveassets.jar

I don't understand what you mean by "use jmemory.jar to run jEveAssets". I double-click on jmemory.jar and nothing happens. That's pretty much everything I know about java.
I tried all the line commands you listed...only the 1g one actually opened the program. The rest of them responded with something like "can't allocate that much space".
There's 16 GB of system memory in the computer, so it seems much more likely I'm not using java properly than a possible hardware limitation.
Here are the error messages, specifically:
java -Xmx4g -jar jeveassets.jar
Quote:Invalid maximum heap size: -Xmx4g
The specified size exceeds the maximum representable size.
Error: Could not create the Java Virtual Machine.
Error: A fatal exception has occurred. Program will exit.

You're using a 32 bit java. That has a maximum (across everything, heap and other memory) limit of 2GB of ram.

I run windows 8.1 64bit version with 8gb of ram so pretty sure I should be able to run the program. |

You should download and install Java from http://java.com/inc/BrowserRedirect1.jsp?locale=en , it automatically assing .jar file to Java itself and then you can run jeveassets just double cliking on the jeveassets.jar file. |
