Combat? Mining? How does it compare to the Thorax in terms of those things? Is it a better choice to fight with instead of using my Thorax in case the thing blows up? Is it better for mining because of its bigger cargo? Does the 1 less of a turret slot effect its combat capabilities much?
What do you use it for and how would you compare it to other gall cruisers?

"Can mining". Beats the thorax IMHO, the thorax cargo hold is too small.

First off, its personal choice. I for 1 think the vexor looks cool.
But mostly With good expanders on it allows you to mine for up to 3 minutes without having to drag and drop the ore from cargo hold to cargo can.
Now Some don't mind this and say 'hey with the extra laser it means I mine for less time', but I like to chat and relax while mining and not have to keep 'click and dragging'.
Also the way I have mined with a thorax has meant that I have wasted ore with full cargo holds and the staggering thing with the lasers, probably all adds up to the same amount of mined ore anyway.
As for drones, well the difference between 1200 m3 and 2000 m3 is the need for heavy, scout or mining drones.

Excellent mining cruiser, better than the Thorax IMO because of the larger cargo hold.
Good agent runner too, same reason.
Decent combat vessel as well. ------------- My salsa makes all the pretty girls want to dance and take off their underpants. I <3 ( . Y . ) |

Excellent Agent ship, good miner, adequate combat ship. I think it's one of the best support ships. Good blockade runner

*nods* Vexor's a good jack of all trades, and very decent cargo-cruiser for surviving blockade running. Can handle all level 2 agent missions, and even quite a few level 3, though at that point I'd probably leave the vexor and procure 3 dedicated ships for 1) combat, 2) speed, and 3) cargo capacity.
I use my Vex as a backup to my thorax, which these days is more geared for combat. If I don't want to take the time to do a complete loadout for exploration of 0.0 space and spot-mining, I switch to the Vexor galavanting about in modest security.

Edited by: Polux on 05/03/2004 21:15:17 With named rails and a guess field 1 I did 275 dmg hit (not wrecking) with mine. Theys ships are great for soloing. (If not pvp for the lack of med slots its nice in belts)

A very nice all round ship, travelled nearly all around imperial space with one and loved the feel. Cargo space was one of the main reasons i loved it so much, i only changed to a thorax because of higher grid and drones. When using 4 250mm rails it can be tricky to fit other things unless you max out engineering skills or wait for tech2+ power upgrades to have some more room for other modules.
A great ship and kudos to the design team on this one!

Yes, I have to agree that the Vexor is a very useful vessel. I spend much time running missions, and I must say that if I only could have one ship, it would be a Vexor. With a couple of expanders at hand it can handle 99% of the courier missions, and it can pack enough firepower to handle almost any combat mission an agent outside a Navy corp or similar will hand out (and a skilled fighter should be able to handle that as well).

It's a miner, althought it's quite capable of defending itself. Thorax is better in most aspects thought.

Agree with most of the above posts. Run both Thorax and Vexor, and generally use the Thorax for mining ops and the Vexor for Ninja Mining, NPC/Convoy hunting, and just running around. Plus, it's cheaper to replace than a Thorax...

For a good fighting setup with a Vexor, start with 4 250mm. You can fit them right now with diags and reactors, and it's become easier to fit after this patch.
One of my favorite and most useful cruisers in the game.

I haven't really tried it yet, but the cruisers with the larger cargo bays could be good for using cap boosters.
Like lets say a thorax with it's smaller cargo would use 3 250 rails and then need it's cap relays to keep cap up.
But the vexor could use one cap booster instead and then leave room in low slots for the vortex stuff or something.
Just a thought I don't know if it is a good one or not. But that would be one way where the larger cargo hold in a vexor could be put to good use in a pvp type situation, I don't know much about pvp situations either though.... except that I go boom pretty quick.

I have a Megathron, Dominix, 5-7 cruisers including the Thorax and the Vexor, and all sorts of frigates.
I love the Throax for running dangerous errands, like when I had to slip into Fountain and get some of my stuff.
But for running agent missions, I like the Vexor. The bigger cargo hold means I can handle those occasional HUGE agent missions without worry.
It's nearly as fast and the 1 less turret point is no big deal on agent missions.
Now, for other tasks such as a fleet battle cruiser, the Thorax is the right ship.
I LOVE THE VEXOR!

I just bought one for Agent missions. It's got good cap which I need as my Agent is in a dead end system and the neighbourhood next door only has 100+ au jumps.
With 4 overdrives, 1 MWD, 1AB I hit 2km/s quite fast, which is enough for rushing normal gates. Slap 4 expander I's in there and I have almost 1k cargo.
Use it for Courier missions mostly, no clue how it'll hold itself in kill mission, as I cannot use rails or blasters.

The main problem I see here is that cap boosters go in med slots, and as the Vexor only has 3 of those that could be a sacrifice.
