Durning a chat with a friend of mine who resides in .0 space he mentioned that he locked on to a enemy Cruiser but had no weapons on board in which to shoot at him. [note: he was returning from Empire space with a new ship that was outfitted for fast running and not fighting]. I commented "well shoot some cans at him" . That sparked the idea of paint rounds, or as in some of the other games, "fun rounds". Ghost Recon had a programmers fun round. A squirrel being shot from the grenade launcher. Some GR modders, Harntrox in specific, made an option for beer and cigs. A player could throw beer cans. Dungeon Siege had the "chicken" rounds, complete with squawking.
What about a fun round??? or paint? though paint would be a FX nightmare on fps. Besides there would have to be a ship wash station somewhere to get the paint off, nonetheless a fun round would liven things up a bit.

What does the paint do to shields?

Edited by: Cousin IT on 05/03/2004 18:29:08 doesn't do anything to shields, might put a big splash of neon pink on his ship. Point is he didn't have anything to shoot but can you imagine what your friends would say if they say your ship splattered with paint? lol. not fast on the lock are we? not fast on the firing are we? get your ship covered with paint do we, sheesh, get some practice in. Coming into port with one's ship covered with paint certainly would be embarrasing.

You misunderstand, the shields reflect or absorb all kinetic damage. The paint ammunition would never touch the ship.
Personally, I don't think I would like to sacrifice the fps for this feature, though it is an interesting idea.

it could work, as a wargame round. it will register "damage" but it wouldn't do any phyical damage. when a ship takes enough damage to lose its shields, it'll have a notice (for the victim). same goes for the ship destruction, but it would also shut weapons down.
i'm sure there are hundreds of loopholes that havn't been considered, but the basic idea is sound.

I like the idea with the implementation of "dummy" damage for the "paint" rounds. It could also use the effects of the ordinary weapons but no "real" damamge. Also, use of "paint" rounds wouldn't draw the ire of Concord

And how many newbs, people not paying attention, etc. etc. are going to be massacred by Concord because a griefer decides to sit in Yulai targetting everyone and firing paintblobs at them?
Nice idea, but still needs some work, I think.

ok so something that shoots Samuel Adams lager beer cans or maybe Bud Lite beer cans. Heck the area by the gates looks like people shoot cans anyways, might as well show everyone what beer ya drink.

I'm under the impression that the Condord only get involved if an aggressive action is taken. dummy wargame rounds can be coded so that they are not hostile, therefore won't incite the wrath of the Concord.

Make shooting dummy rounds at someone consentual? You have a good point, though.
Edit: I also did not read all the way down to the post before this one. Even better _______________________________________________ Eris Discordia: On the scale of funny and constructive it scores low, real low. |

Exactly my point. Newb24601 is targetted by Griefer, who fires a paintblob at him. Newb24601 doesn't know what a paintblob is, thinks he's under attack, and returns fire. Concord destroy Newb24601, and Griefer loots the remains.

But, yeah, let us have dummy rounds for practice!

One thing this game could really use is simulated weapons for corp training. The ship computer could run a simulated shield, armor, and structure status (your cap would drain as usual) and your weapons would not actually use ammo or deal any real damage. It would take a solid minute or two to get out of this simulated state and bring fire control computers back online incase of an attack so corps on manuveres would be very vulnerable.
