Ok so im just starting to train up to the point where I can train tech 2 lasers (I know lasers supposedly suck) and I was wondering, whats better for PvE? I've never used pulses largely due to going straight from flying Gallente to a hulk straight up to an Abaddon. I fly a Harbinger and an Abaddon but Im thinking about switching to an Apoc just for the superior cap management (I'll actually be able to tank and shoot lol). I just figured I would get some input on the matter before I potentially waste a months training on a useless weapon system. Also any other tech 2 items that would be essential for flying with a full rack of Tachyon 2s? Any help would be greatly appreciated. O and remember I don't PvP at all (at least not yet) so dont factor that in at all.

There is absolutely no reason not to train both.
If I had to choose which one to do first for PVE it'd be Pulse followed by Beam.
Mega Pulse II /w Scorch + 3 Heat Sink II's on an Abaddon will tear up Sansha/Blood belt rats.
I know most people don't like spending the isk on t2 ammo for pve but Scorch isn't that expensive and lasts a fairly long time.
On the Beam side, Tachyon II's /w Amarr Navy Multi + 3 Heat Sink II's on an Abaddon does hilarious dps if you can manage to make it cap stable.
DO BOTH! . .. WELP! .. . |

even mega pulse on an apoc will shred the pants off belt rats, esp blood/sansha or rouge drones.
ive trained t2 pulses to large and did that over a year ago, i only hav small beam t2... and ive never felt left out in pvp or pve.

If you're going to jump into an Apocalypse for the cap, then you may want to consider training Autocannons.

From a tactical standpoint, no cap use>reduced cap use. This is where all the whines of "wasted bonus" comes from.

For PvE the laser has other advantages. Vs Sansha and Blooders a Megapulse Apoc simply deals more damage. And for ratting I think that "no reloading and a total of 16m3 used for ammo > capless". No rat can challenge a properly tanked apoc anyway.
It's against players that autocannons become preferable. Or against angels and stuff. ______________________________________________ -You can never earn my respect, only lose it. It's given freely, and only grudgingly retracted when necessary. |

Beams.
I gor both and trust me; beams are the better.
Simply beacause multifrequency L on megabeams II has 30 km optimal.
Sure Pulses are easier to fit and have larger DPS but as range increases it falls pretty fast. Standard L has 60 km optimal on beams. Go figure. And that's the farthest rats will go.
Abaddon + megabeams ftw. ___ Apocalypse Mining. Mine your way to heaven.

Pulses get Scorch ammo which is serious awesomeness until you get to Tachyons and those are a little difficult on the cap. -=^=- "Someday the world will recognize the genius in my insanity." |

And no, you will not use scorch or any oher t2 ammo for pve as it just isn't worth it.
The best u can use is amarr navy multifrequency which has 4 times the duration of t2 crystasls @ one third the price.
Tachyons are not worth the fitting mods required (2xRCU2 on any ship) since you can fit a full rack of megapulses on an abaddon (with awu 5 of course, maybe pdu2).
So pulses if you have to, megabeams if you can. ___ Apocalypse Mining. Mine your way to heaven.

People put autocannons on the Apoc so they can actually fit mods on it, not really because of the cap use. Apoc's cap use with lasers is not bad. It's 500 CPU is just terrible, however.

I don't get this. Currently my alt flies an Abaddon with megabeams.. i find it odd that i can't fit t2 beams without a fitting mod with AWU IV (or V still won't fit). Yet i have no trouble fitting a mega/hype with all 425mm rails. WTF do amarr have to waste 1-2 low slots on fitting mods? It's worse on cruisers/BC, good luck getting beams onto those. |

Because awsome weapons should be impossible to fit without fitting mods....oh wait on second thought, lasers actually suck ¦donkeyweeny.
