As many of you may or may not be aware - the server is currently undergoing some technical problems.
I have been assured the Server Technicians in London are working feverishly on the case of getting it back to a stable state, so please bear with us during this time.
Rather than spamming threads all over the board about how the server is down for you, please refrain, and keep these comments posted within this thread.
Thankyou

Ahhh well, these things happen. Gutting if you are gonna lose ships though. Considering we pay for this it would seem only fair to be re-imbursed.
Never mind eh?

I can't believe you guys ain't using backup lines. It's common knowledge in networking infrastructure.
And if you blame it on servers; its a CLUSTER. It is made to make no difference if one node dies. Tell us what's really wrong!
... and don't tell me the DB just got wiped out by a carebear :P --------------------------

Perhaps Dreamscape should sue CPP in-game for loss of earnings for .. er.. causing a galaxy-wide sensor and display system shutdown. That'll do. Dreamscape were on a 24 hour mining operation that we've been looking forward to for a week now. Not two hours in and the server messes up. First, we can't put our ore into cans and next out battleships can't fire on any NPCs and one sneaks up behind me and starts blasting me in my cruiser. I hope I won't log in and find myself in an escape capsule. If I do, I shall be remarkably annoyed.

True it is a game, but how much time to you spend 'working' to get that nice ship and all those nice modules for it, only to have it blown to bits because of a techinical issue on the other side?
It should not be too hard to have redundancy... We were just shown that we don't have that, ATM... In that case, CCP should have the means to investigate petitions and restore character status...
ONe thing that confuses me is how come the forum slowed down...I guess it is hosted where the cluster is...IN the UK
I did a traceroute and other diagnostics here is what I came up with:
tracert to www.eve-online.com shows that the route goes through the UK, on its way to Iceland. packets started dropping after the "thamesside" nodes.... Apparently there is a link from UK to Iceland in CCP's infrastructure that had issues. so the website might be hosted in Iceland, yet it seems that the forum is in the UK, as is the cluster, Hosted by CW... You can go harass them to find out what the hell happened
I suggest CCP look into hosting by Akamai... They replicate their network across the world, ensuring uptime.

Edited by: Perera on 05/03/2004 21:30:13 This just in from London:
"A group of desperado's calling themselves "Zombie Inc" or "Mad Vikings" are picketing a server house in the East End of London. The are repeatingly stoning the building, yelling, "Erdy Gerdy, how dare you ban my account, yah? You crazee CCP monkeys". Several fairweather Londoners, blithely enjoying the delights of Canary Wharf, Docklands and adjacent areas were blissfully unaware of the miscreants illegal activities until too late, and have been caught up in the mayhem, accounting for severe losses to personal wellbeing and fortune, losing purses, items of clothing and being yanked out of their taxis toward a grim death. Upon police intervention the enraged Scandinavians pursued a strange tactic whereby the leader would pummel the nearest erstwhile bobbie with lashings of Heineken and yet more stones not to mention strange Nordic curses while the others would surround him offering big puffy coats thus pretecting against baton charges, massages to tired throwing arms and heartfelt words of encouragement. The Metropolitan police have been powerless to prevent the ongoing catastrophe, being as they are reletively unarmed, merely left with the mere defence of saying "Stop! Or I'll say stop again!" We have just learned however that representatives of a Games Software house, CCP are on route from Reykjavik, Iceland in an attempt to alleviate the ongoing massacre!"
So you see, there's a reason for everything.

The website www.eve-online.com is hosted in island i think
but the subdomain myeve.eve-online.com (forum eve insider etc) is hosted on the same server as the game in london (proberly to access the database at a fast rate and to safe bandwidth) __________________________

Get with the program, or hire someone that knows what they are doing..because you can only "pull them wires" and do the "hotfixs" for so long until...crash..severs are down for weeks...but then again..looks like its down again.

heh heh... i'd be a fool to risk my ship and ore to the chaos that insues whenever there's a patch. patchday (or "patch*week*") is my time away from EVE. just put a couple level five skills on my two accounts, and i'm chillin' for a week... brushing the cat, cleaning the house, and ever taking some time to walk outside a bit and witness the blinding light from the daystar.

Edited by: BornyHitch on 06/03/2004 12:19:44 Well since the downtime today (06/03) i'm completely unable to log back into the game, I was playing ok this morning, but now it just hangs on the "pre-authentication handshake" part of the login for a few minutes before telling me that the connection has failed, this is highly frustrating and is driving me nuts...especially when I can see that around 3000 people are already happily connected
