Edited by: TranquilityOne on 24/11/2007 09:23:38 Edited by: TranquilityOne on 24/11/2007 09:14:43 Ok so here I am, bored out of my mind so I go check the Eve general forums. I see that there are over 1000 pages in eve discussion alone so I go to the last page. And BOOM!
It became like a small story thing. Starting from Eve being an infant and everyone in frigates and cruisers. In a way, I wish I could play 03' eve just to see the environment and the pink bat protests
It was pretty cool to read up on these stories of people using frigates so much and how battleships were "gods" at the time. The biggest thing that I got from reading it though was that the 2003 Eve game was a completely different game (at least thats how I felt). Full of famous bugs but also filled with exploration. I mean, people were slapping like cruise on frigates (some different missile system back in the day i hear) and all the cruiser vs frigate hype.
After browsing 50 pages or so (realllllyyy bored though was intrigued by the history of eve) I realized that Eve has come a long way from what it was. Now some of you might say, NO REALLY!? well. When I say it has come a long way, i mean it has come a really long way. In the sense that modern day eve is so different that it might as well be not eve.
I'm recommending everyone to really go back and read if not simply browse the pages real fast. Now of course, this is all a personal preference. I find histories of things taken for granted fascinating and the evolution of eve is definitely more interesting than what it deserves.
Am I making little sense? maybe. Its 4:06 AM and I'm dead tired but also at the same time, so awed by the immensity of the history of eve. Heck, you could probably make some kind of Eve biography outta all of the stuff that happened.
Now you must be wondering... why does this guy share this? Well, for all you whiners that are gonna cry and cry about the current state of eve and how its going to die, go back there and read the old stuff. It helps alot. Kind of. ^ Suggestion. Optional but not required.
Discuss Old eve and this long change eve went through.
SIDE NOTE: WHAT I'VE JUST REALIZED!!! IF EVE SURVIVES TILL 2013, IT WILL BE A DECADE GAME!!! I dont think any game has ever lasted that long and man I would be so happy to see eve out there and livin a few years from now.
Ok but seriously, these old posts... some are just plain amusing tho. Like the whole lack of "pro" setups and ect.
Edit: http://oldforums.eveonline.com/?a=topic&threadID=18803 MISSILES WERE SPLASH DAMAGE??? WTFBBQ?
EDIT 2: Another thing thats notable: over time, the community has definitely gotten alot more hostile and aggressive. Like ffs its crazyy!

Hehe, splash damage was fun. I remember being a Breacher pilot, some low sec system trying to pin down an apoc so that my mates could kill it. Every Torp that hit it would wipe my shield out so I had to constantly go in and out of scram range to stay alive. The difference between eve today and eve then is mind blowing. Eve today is a far more balanced game than it ever used to be although I still miss my 35km/s cruise missile firing Rupture

Edited by: Danae Melios on 24/11/2007 11:02:55 Yeah, the community wasn't as hostile as it is now, UNLESS YOU WERE THERE!
Look at some of those complaints about one guy after another-- look at the hate against Taggert Transdimensional (TTI) back in the day for things that sound very much like events from early this year. [By the way I don't mean to slander the current TTI guys, afaik they have no relation to the old guard except for bringing back an old name.] I don't know if all the mo0 stuff is there or not-- they were pushing the boundaries of legality and at one point CCP took to the field of battle against them in CONCORD ships to get them out of the area-- and lost. The devs ended up teleporting them out of Empire.
There's a reason why CONCORD is so beefed up, there's a reason there are sentry guns. Eve back in the day was a lot more hostile in certain ways. Go afk in a belt and come back and some bastard might have laid a minefield around your ship and absconded to the next system, where YOUR ships destruction wouldn't trigger a CONCORD reaction.
Yeah, it was a different game. You could trick out ships like nobody's business, you had no POS's or conquerable stations in deep space, in the real early days traders had to have their own spreadsheets set up to help set up trade routes between regions. All these cute little guides were yet to be written, the knowledge paid for with hundreds of hours of work in and out of game.
In one sense it was fun--we knew we were laying down a foundation for generations of gamers to build upon. In another sense it was chaotic and maddening, the rules not yet spelled out and lines not yet drawn.

Eve back in the day was awesome (it still is, but in a different way), everything felt fresh. There was hardly anything to do in comparison with todays game, but you just got out there and had a shed load of fun.
There's so much whining these days, it would be great if CCP put up a server of Eve back in 2003 so peeps could truly appreciate what they have today.

yea would be awesome just to have eve back as it was, although i wasn't there i've heard so many stories from a friend and i think its a shame it isn't done just to make everyone realise how far eve has developed.

2003 Eve was a lot different. At the same timr - for me - it didn't change much.
It's different regarding to "Stuff" (TM). We have tons more ships now and more mods and skills to go with them.
Concord, rats and sentries got tweaked and re-tweaked.
But for all the stuff the game is mostly the same as the (IMHO) greaz design still holds and I like the attitude - in general - the devs bring to game design.
One thing is changes besides stuff - Eve now got a whole strategic level that wasn't there in the early days. Many don't like some of the effects (pos, capital warfare, sov) that has - but for me it adds a dimension and keeps things interesting.
Also Eve was smaller and felt more personal. That had its charme - but on the whole I prefer todays bigger Eve. --- ISK BUYER = LOOSER

I keep seeing this moO and TTI stuff. Were they 1 huge corps back in the day or something?
And another thing, that mine field thing sounds funny as hell tbh. Comming back to the game finding your ship mined to death. LOL Now of course, thats seconds before crying about losing it...
now my curiosity about the old missiles is gettin bigger. So how did they work exactly? Like homing bombs? Was there concord response to hitting a neutral? And how the heck did people load cruise missiles into heavy launchers.

it was spelled m0o and they were 2 separate corps. What may be confusing you is that m0o cleared a certain area of space and then sold it to TTI. ----------------------

Too much EVE is unhealthy btw. ...

maybe they should call the server "History", and require all players to download a new client and give everyone free "history accounts" that have the same login as your TQ account, only you have to start afresh

The best part of this story is that when the devs lost in their non-uber Concord ships, they teleported m0o (note the correct spelling), the most skilled and bloodthirsty group in the history of Eve (at least at the time - we won't know now since they're not around anymore), into a 0.0 carebear mining OP. Although the m0o members were quite surprised by the sudden change of venue, the carnage is said to have been spectacular.
And that's irony, baby.
