as we know many people in everare now running around with battleships. and titans are the current succesor which arnt expected for some while. i propse the introduction of a new class of ship. The Dreadnaught.
possibilities
Larger cargo hold than BS but smaller than Indys Stronger defences than BS Stronger Attack than BS Ability to dock Frigs to resupply/re equip during battles. larger drone space with special ability +50% controlable drones
i just feel that those who currently have BS dont have much else to save up for. titans arnt expected for soem time and Dreadnaughts could fill this time perfectly. a ship designed for huge scale battles.
also the possibility of a competition for players of eve to model these new ships for the racesof the game. the winner for each race gets to name their ship and see their creation spread throught the galaxy.
ideas? comments?

As I understand it Titans are not a direct successeors of BS's, less shields for example might not make it a good opponent to a BS. Too fly a titan into 0.0 space without an escord would be certain doom for the giant.
The stats Im referring to can be found on eve-db.com, which may or may not be accurate, but for now Im not sure what the purpose of the titans will be. -------------- When you have exhausted all possibilities, remember this - you haven't. ------------------ (Thomas Edison) |

titans are not the next battle type ship. they have alot less shields, easy to scramble etc

This is just a bad idea. Introducing a new ship that is superior in any aspect to another ship completely renders the old ship obsolete.
That would just result in everyone flying around in a Dreadnought instead of a BS.

Those stats for titans are just placeholders.
TBH do you really think we need bigger more expensive ships? People are scared enough about loosing battleships let alone titans. We need more players getting into frigates and cruisers to balance out the ship classes a bit. Theres too much blob fighting now as it is Imagine if folk are risking even more isk..they'd never fight and corps would have to mine even more for replacements = boring.

I think we don't needs ships more powerful than BS
what we need is ship specialization, so as to invalidate "bigger is better" principle that currently rules on EVE

Need to optimize the code for large fleet battles, introduce the remaining tech 2 frigates then we might have some interesting battles. Death of the battleship will hopefully be soon. Too common place.

I don't think the dreadnaught should be completed with the stats you have said. because that would put more useless ships on the market. and that's the LAST thing eve needs, maybe you need a new design of ship with different stats.. better in soem areas and weaker in other areas.. but not better then the BS everyone is complaining about the useless cruisers and frigates and such and thats because of battleships.
so in response to dreadnaught.. I say nay more junk to save up for and put more crap in on eve.

Elite ships are the new ship types. Interceptors, Bombers, Battlecruisers etc. They are all part of the same basic classes, but of a more specific role.
CCP wanted elite ships to not replace standard ships, just make them a lot more role-specific. ********** Everyone deserves to die. You go first.

I think it would be cool to have Dreadnought class ships being the next lvl in ship sizes. But still different from what a titan is supposed to be.
Of course this Dreadnought would have to follow the law of diminishing returns just like all other ships in that it'll cost somewhere around 800-1000 mil in materials. Nice for the few that could afford it, yet 3 battleships will rip it to shreds.
Allow it to fit X Large turrets and modules also(Think Dual or Quad Tachs), with the huge penalties to tracking that come with such large weaponry. I don't agree with the drone space or the frig thing quite though(Drones are bad enough already). It should be a large warship, not a carrier. Save that for the titans.
If someone wanted to invest the cash for one of these things great for them. Though they would definately have some problems if they planned on operating without escort.

I think dreadnoughts would be good for EVE, but to stop them replacing battlships and having them flying around everywhere, they should be not so much personal ships, but corporate ships. There would be a limit as to how many dreadnoughts one corp could have, like 5. The same would go for the Titans, but each corp would only be allowed one or maybe 2. Titans and dreadnoughts, given there enourmous size, might require 2 players to control it or something (don't know how this would work).

A 1bil price tag would stop most people from getting them. Also make top insurance payment somewhere around 60% with no free 40% insurance. Insurance is the ONLY reason so many people fly around in BS. I know if I lose my apoc, my lovely insurance company is going to give me enough to buy a new one with a bit of change for new modules.
It still takes new players a couple months to get their first BS, it'll take them almost half a year to probably save enough for one of these.
Also make the BP VERY expensive like starting at 12 Billion. Don't make the T1 BP droppable by RD agents either as it would be way way to big of a boost to a select few's income. However the T2 version could be droppable by agents. (still need the T1 version to make the T2 one )

so basicaly...people think its a good idea as long as they wont be replacing BS. whaat aboutt...
top speed 80 m/s weight 1,000,000,000 kg (so that mwd and afterburners cant make a big difference to speed) cargo hold 500M^3 (just for supplies) 8 High slots (no miners allowed) drone space 500m^3 (no miner drones) uber sheilds uber armour cost around 1 billion isk. blueprint cost around 12 billion isk.
this would stop everyone from getting them. can ONLY be owned by corps. max of 5 to a corp.
that sound a little better??

We don't need bigger ships, what we need is making the smaller ones more appealing.
The T2 Battleships will be more powerful but there is no point of any "uber ship" in this game.

while i as yet dont have a BS, i dont see anything wrong with my merlin or my osprey or my Badger MKII. my merlin is handy if i need to pick something up or just jump threu some systems for something as its top speed is 900m/s. my osprey is an ideal mining ship as its fast and can fill my badger up in a little over 35 mins. and my badger is exceptional as i can haul my vast quantites of minerals about as and when i need to.
maybe i just need a BS to appreciate them a little more :S -------------------------------------------

I have a BS and i can tell you that it is WAY too powerful against cruisers and frigates if you ask me.
A well fitted Battleship can destroy a cruiser in 1-3 volleys.
If you now introduce even more powerful vessels what is the point of even thinking going into battle in a cruiser or frigate ?

The idea would be that Tracking with a dreadnought's XL weaponry would be even harder to shoot at cruisers and frigates than current battleship.
A strike force of kestrels should be able to lay waste to the monstrocity.

your not just asking for a new ship, your asking for a whole new pile of code,
1) no miners .. there no code to support that, so they would have to code either "miner turrets" onto ALL ships, or make up some TERRIBLE excuse to 'role play' as to why a apoc battleship can fit 8 miners but this special ship cant?
2) only limited to corps, with a max limit - dont think you know what your asking for there, thats a LOT of code, with a hell of a lot of loopholes, bugs etc that could come into.
creating a 'newer bigger' ship isnt the way, what happens once everyone has their dreadnaughts? ... destroyers? .. bigger and bigger? the thing with eve is there is no 'end game' its a persistant world, you cant complete eve by getting the biggest bestest stuff, 1) more stuff will always be added. 2) it would make the game even harder for new players to get immersed in

lol there are no useless ships, period. you just have to know how to use them.
a differnt ship class would be great for the fact that everything, i mean in ships is boring, all i see is the same bs's everywhere. theres no variety.
why not make a ship better then a bs' cruiser are better then frigs and bs's better then cruiser. its just the way it goes. just make it that the dreadnaught would need a massive amount of requirements.
oh titans wont be pvp ships. 1 reason is to expensive to lose.

oh yeah and then we need to make something that's better than a dreadnought and then we need something bigger again ...
seriously why don't make it basically this way:
BS > cruiser > frigates > BS
a perfect paper-stone-scissors principle -> the way it has to be in my opinion.
Of course a single frigate won't be able to take down a bship ... just for the reason it lacks in firepower ... but the BS should be unable to kill the frig.

Ok we talked about dreadnought, clearly CCP is doing a lot of work on this field, be it specialized ships or titans. So i think this case is covered really.
I would like to mention that the industrial ship types could use some loving. Right now, we all mine in cruisers/battleships and haul everything in a large cargo ship, the "indy". Why not introduce a broad selection of REAL industrial ships, like mining platforms and specialized structures (Oh CCP is working on that :) and some special mining ships that would need very advanced mining skills to operate. Allows for more specializing and freeing up the BS's and Cruiser to do their real tasks, like fighting/protecting/war.
Bad idea?

Well okay, that is in my opinion the pinnacle of rts space strategy games I Master Of Orion III there are loads of ship classes, and this post about Dreadnought reminded me of this.
Here is the list of all the ship classes in that game (just for fun) and you are free to design and outfit these ships as you want in Master Of Orion I, II, III
Lancer (interceptors) Corvette Frigate Destroyer Light Cruiser Cruiser Battle Cruiser Battleship Dreadnought Super Dreadnought Titan Behemoth Leviathan (the size of a small moon)
EVE is very much just as it should be.. (give or take a few small issues) if the dev's want to make new ship classes, fine by me :) Currently the Titans are set as "Drifter Colonies" according to EVE-db

From what I remember from beta, and what i've read about the place, Titans are not expected to be, and never were envisaged as weapons platforms. they're more like moveable stations with jump drives. I did hear that smaller ships (cruisers/frigates) would be able to dock at them.
IMHO we should stick with the current and envisaged ship classes, just add the specialisation that CCP are doing now. The Elite cruisers look like they're going to be damn good, and thet current balance between frig/cruiser/BS is pretty good.
I wonder what they're thinking about for Elite BS's?

Hell yeah :D that was awesome with the fitting =) (Besides MOO3, you spend hours of fitting just to see 5pixel-ships flying around :( )
I'd also like to see those classes :) If CCP would just burn some braincells, they could easily split new ships into useful vessels without making them being equal.

A bit off topic, but I loved MOO I & II. I was incredibly disapointed with III. Mainly because of the way they handled battles. If they were going to do battles in real time they should of had some kind of interface similar home world. (not perhaps as brilliant graphic wise or complex for that matter. But similar.)
The ship models were just so small and didn't have alot of work in them.
Anyhow yeah bigger ships not neccesarily a bad thing, though the bigger they are the more vulnerable they should be to smaller ships. Thus requiring escort.
