Obidom Jax	Posted - 2007.11.26 16:24:00 - [1] When i was looking throught eh stuff from fanfest i noticed screenshots of planets close up Now i know they want at some point to be able to do close fly through of planets, but from what i saw it looked like a picture of a planet split into several sections and looked like something was going on (interaction) with that sector? Any one know what it was that was mentioned about planets as not seen anything in forums on it

My mom is blind in real life and several times people have asked me, when I inform them of my mom's condition, if we all know sign language. I find it extremely humorous when they do that, so I thought I'd entertain everybody and do the equivalent in regards to the deaf fellow who started this thread. Pwned! Graveyard Tan...that was pretty ***** dumb and very low. I could say many things but I think Obidom has it covered. OT: I am hoping in the future that planet play a role in the game. EVE has the technology now to do it. Just a matter of setting up the game mechanics and what to do with planets. And when someone asked about switching sov POS to planets to cut down on POS spaming etc, Oveur said that they "had something else in store for planets" in that clip I believe. I think once ambulation takes off and they work out all the bugs and tweak it they will start work on the planets methinks. And I am sure the ambulation and possibly the planet aspect may be sort of a test bed for the new World of Darkness MMO that will eventually come out. At least thats my take on it
Hanno Mir	Posted - 2007.11.26 17:37:00 - [27] I actually had an on planatary interaction, First off you'd set up a station of sorts in orbit of the planet in question, then once that is set you can use it as a supply line to the surface and the station would send you requests on what the surface needs. Then to manage the planet you'd go to the planet and you'd get an interface which would allow you to gather information on the different regions/continents and act on this information accordingly. Then the whole feature would expand as more and more gets added, this actually happened in a dream I had but I thought it was neat so... yeah.

We may see a 2d screen with a gestion game maybe "a la Ogame" (it's not been said, that's only what I say). In this screen one dev said players would be rulers of states. The screenshot showed one state. I can't remember anything else about this anyway. Anyone else on this before the thread goes random words ? 2isk

You have a station in orbit or some other kind of claim and manage resources in the UI. After that there would be flying over the surface with a more complex form of the above (IE resource management per 'city', plus a new and very different environment to fly your ship in). In the end there would be landing and integration with ambulation. Back on topic... haven't seen the video, but I have imagined how planetary interaction could take shape. The first level of planetary interaction will be the construction of ground-based installations on airless worlds similar to POSes. Access will be more difficult (only smaller ships should be able to get close enough to manage the facilities), but construction will be far cheaper. For those with the money, the method of combining a planetary base with a POS will make access much easier. Gravity lifts and space elevators will both be used to transfer materials. Later, outposts will be capturable by boarding parties. Onboard security (which can be beefed up for a price) will be able to repel some boarding parties, but they lose effectiveness over time - siege is another method to reduce a station. The next stage is colonization of airless worlds. This will be a surface-side outpost, and will be capturable by landing parties. In most cases, a station or outpost will be constructed in space for transfer of goods. The use of boarding/landing parties will become more complex. Units on the ground will be commanded similar to drones, creating a hybrid RTS system (one heavy on orbital bombardment). The training of soldiers will eventually be expanded into a system of human workers. Workers will be needed to run large-scale industrial operations. Slaves will be cheaper in bulk, and cheaper to pay (they still need food), but they are less productive than free workers. I totally love the idea of being able to start a colony on a planet, then having to do stuff with it, a little bit of Macro Managment in game, Obviously they dont need to render the planet terrain they can just do it like they showed, a planet background with surface split into states and your state highlighted
