This character is training for ganks, and is primarily Gallente focused with a goal of ganking in the Brutix. I've already started training towards Blasters, but I'm wondering if I should have trained for a different type of projectile based turret. Blasters have very low range, it seems. Still not too late, I can switch over to something else. Can other types of turrets be mounted on the Brutix, or does that ship only work well with Blasters? Worse comes to worse, I'm not too far into the training yet to do a complete switch over to something else.
Also, to fund the gankery and grind standings, are Gallente battleships pretty good for doing Level 4 missions? I'd like to eventually train for a Tengu to grind ISK and standings, but that's a long term goal. Hoping that with a little extra training, I can stay in the same faction and grind sooner, if Gallente BS's are somewhat good.
Thanks! |

Comments: - Unless you're doing very specific things, blasters suck for missions. Fit rails. - Don't use the Brutix. Use a Myrm. :) - Hype -> Vindi/Kronos is a viable path for BS missioning. - Don't forget a Rail Sentry Domi/NDomi. Pretty good too. :) - The Proteus can put out 700 DPS with rails. Not as good as a Tengu, but nothing really is. - If your long term goal is the Tengu, just do that. Its not that much SP and its that much better.

A blaster Talos can about equal the Tornado's alpha on its second volley (a bit over 4 seconds in), and by 12-13 seconds has done roughly double the damage before the tornado gets a second shot. So as long as you have at least enough time for a second volley, the tornado really isn't any better. |

Most missions don't raise your sec status. You'll have better luck with more traditional sec raising techniques.

Tornado is bar-none the best ganker out there, but Talos has its own role. Yes, Talos can actually do more raw damage between 8 and 13 seconds after starting the gank. But try suicide ganking 4, 5 or 6 Exhumers with a single Talos. Tornado can do it.....I think you'll find the Talos falls short because Alpha >>>> DPS, due to Concord behavior and reloading mechanics.
Also... Tornado:
-Cheaper (no Noxcium required for manufacture)
-30km Optimal, and does 95% of damage out much further due to Tornado 50% falloff bonus. (this means that you can engage multiple targets spaced as many as 100KM apart and still score kills...while Talos more or less has to be at point blank range)
-Can deal EMP, THERM or EXP with mostly purified damage. Quake Ammo can hit KIN with a range penalty. (important if targets are resist-tanking...)
-Mechanics of turret hit quality means that shooting with a Talos often tends towards 'average' EFT numbers, while Tornado first volley often scores a 25-50% bonus to damage due to being 'well aimed or excellent hits' vs initially stationary targets.
-Targets generally killed instantly, which completely ignores effect of RR/Boosters.
The Talos, on the other hand, will be an Orca buster. Your typical max-cargo Orca will fall to as few as 3 of these. |

Wilkus, what's the concord response time in a 0.5? Any links? The ones I'm turning up on Google are pretty old and I think I remember them buffing response times in early 2010.

Based on my logs, in 0.5, concord responds in 13 seconds or 19 seconds, depending on presence of Concord in system.
0.7, its closer to 8-9 /14-15 seconds.
Basically, if Concord isn't spawned in system, they just spawn directly on you at the earlier time. If they happen to be someplace else (off grid, or on the other end of the ice belt) they spawn 6 seconds later. |

Oh, and if you are trying to farm sec-status, best way (IMO) used to be 'target painting' rats while ninja looting other people's missions.
But, in line with CCP's recent policy of nerfing all things related to 'high-sec nonconsensual PVP' - that no longer works. (TBH, I don't even remember carebears clamoring for a 'sec status repair nerf'....CCP just decided to do it.)
However, the quickest way to farm sec status is actually cherrypicking and farming certain LVL 4 missions. Find a cluster of LVL 4 agents, then just cycle through missions every four hours until you get:
Serp Ex/Angel Ex/ The Blockade/ Pirate Invasion/Recon 1/3.
Get a few instances of these in adjacent systems, (or a mixed Angel/Serp mission pair within the same system) and you can get around a full point of sec status in just a few hours. All the listed missions have lots of Battleships, generally few (or no) gates, and generate lots of sec.
Just remember: don't finish the missions, kill the BS's, but leave the triggers and farm them for an entire week.
Fortunately, I don't do this much anymore as killing Exhumers with a -10 alt is far more time-efficient.... saving my sec-status for randomly instapopping unsuspecting blingy Marauders/CNRs outside busy stations with a few helpers.

How do you manage to stay in high sec with a -10 security status? Is that possible? My guess is that you tank for gate guns and just log off, rather than docking up, and resupply in low/null?
I would also want to do all Level 4 missions, mostly for the ISK that I'm going to burn for ganking, as well as the standings grind. |

I expect there's all sorts of tricks, such as agile travel fits/pure cheap pod, logging at a safe in a pod, having an orca eject a ship at said safe right as you log on, having a fleet invite & squad-warp ready to go to a combat-probed/bookmarked gank target in a belt. Mostly you see having an alt/main handle everything else while the flashy's just there to do their specific ganking action. |

A relatively cheap ship for running 4s is the Domi / Navy Domi. If you have 500 mil and 15 mil SP invested, it will serve you well.
It won't be a great diffrence in SP, if you gank with Gallente and fly a Tengu in 4s, because a Domi needs Gunnery AND Drones at a decent SP level, but concentrating on Gunnery and Armortank would be easier.
Forget the Mega, it's just not as effective at runnig missions, compared to the Domi. A Vindi is expensive as Hell, if you want to be faster than a Domi. The Kronos is expensive and needs a truckload of SP to work well.
A fitting I ran:
[Dominix Navy Issue, Level 4 lazy] Core B-Type Large Armor Repairer Armor Thermic Hardener II Armor Thermic Hardener II Armor Kinetic Hardener II Armor Kinetic Hardener II Magnetic Field Stabilizer II Magnetic Field Stabilizer II
Cap Recharger II Cap Recharger II Cap Recharger II Cap Recharger II Omnidirectional Tracking Link II Tracking Computer II
350mm Railgun II, Javelin L 350mm Railgun II, Javelin L 350mm Railgun II, Javelin L 350mm Railgun II, Javelin L 350mm Railgun II, Javelin L 350mm Railgun II, Javelin L
Large Auxiliary Nano Pump I Large Sentry Damage Augmentor I Large Anti-Explosive Pump I
Ogre II x5 Garde II x5 Warden II x5 Hobgoblin II x5
980 DPS @ 20 km 650 tank against Kin/ Therm
Switch Hardeners and long Range/ Heavy Drones depending on NPC Damage and Tank.
You sure can play around with more Gank and Tracking on this fit, but then you may need a Capbooster or more expensive Mods. |

For gank untill about 25k EHP gank brutix solo can do the job cheaper than Tornado T2 fitted
I don't have much experience lately with Talos in full gank situation but after my SISI testings i could dish a good 1400dps (same than vindi before the hybrid changes for a lot cheaper), I'm not sure but I guess this should be able to gank quite easily something 'till 80K in 0.5 System? 2 salvo with T2 arty -16sec +/- if you're not killed already by concord you're a hero at the third shot, maybe Blaster Talos is better in this particular situation since at 16sec a good Gallente pilot has already shot +/- 4 salvos |
