Dunno :D
I mean, if carriers have been suggested, why not motherships hehe. Can only be controlled by corp and should act as a fowards base (repairs require time and are not instantaneos)
Capacitators regenerate faster near suns
If ya played Homeworld, you should know how I'm thinking :D

according to the thing i read yesterday about the 3 Jovian Titans. they are able to carry entire fleets into battle :O and at any given time there is one that outs of operation as itsbeing retrofitted. apparently the Jovian Titans have been around longer than Humans have been Traversing space :S thats long lol -------------------------------------------

I loved home world, and the mother ship idea is kinda cool, I guess if you're able to dock in titans that kinda takes care of it. -------------- When you have exhausted all possibilities, remember this - you haven't. ------------------ (Thomas Edison) |

Wouldnt want to make everything to uber, but frig-docking would be good :D
Would be neat to have some kinda unique corp mothership, eh? :D

In homeworld, the mothership had very effective anti fighter/frigate defenses but relied on capital ships to tag along for heavyer foes. Mind you the capital ships all had jump capabilities, where in EVE no jump capable ship is available for players yet.
Would be cool to have the mothership generate a jump field, so insdead of docking, anything bigger than a frigate would have to "align for jump" with the mothership to travel from system to system, or use the jumpgates as normal and meet up or wait for the mother ship to arrive. -------------- When you have exhausted all possibilities, remember this - you haven't. ------------------ (Thomas Edison) |

Edited by: Exousia on 11/03/2004 12:58:54 A corporation reaches a certain size, it would get the ability and would have to get the resources and skills to construct its own "mothership" to use for HQ and/or hangar and repair station or such. Battleships and Cruisers "dock" on modules/bays on the out side of the mothership while frigates may dock in hangar because of size. Maybe a combination of the technologies within the corporation could decide what the mothership would look like and what it had the ability to do.. And maybe what kind of defenses the mothership would have (if any)
I really liked that "jump alignment" idea Sushanta
I only see one small problem with this.. there are so many corporations in EVE now.. so.. well, i guess the corp. size part of the idea takes care of that :)
Feel free to add what is missing on this idea :)

Really wish they would merge Homeworld to EVE hehe ^^
Gotta only figure out a way what to do when everybody is off? Should the mothership dock at a station? (That "Pride of Hiigara" Mothership from Homeworld surely is a helluva Mutha in size :))
Or just warp out/disappear? ^^
Wouldn't be great to log in and find that expensive mothership shredded to pieces because some dork blew it up ^^

I agree, having frigates able to dock would be a great thing for a titan. They do need to address what happens to the ship though when logged off. Those ships are gonna be uber expensive and would be a shame if you had to leave it out in the middle of space for anyone with a gun to shoot it. Personnaly i think it should just disappear like all the other ships. Anyone docked inside at the time is simply rebirthed to a random location in space much like the current log off thing and when you log back in you autowarp to the gate... Personnaly i can't wait i want to fly one of these soooo bad, owning a titan is my goal in this game and ofcourse using it too

Edited by: Von Schnopp on 12/03/2004 19:19:49 As for the question of Titans and travel between systems; We all know there's a skill called Jump Drive Operation right?
I think I read somewhere about Titans and that they will be able to use it's own internal jump drive to reach uncharted systems where the colonists can build a jump gate leading back to the system from whence they came. It would explain the existence of afore mentioned skill atleast.

I think the titans should stay put. If a corporation ever becomes big enough to be able to support a titan they should be able to provide security for it 24/7, if they can't they obviously aren't large enough to support such a huge ship.

It might be too much to just have one person fly the whole ship :D and it wouldn't be great to log on and have the titled "navigator dude" not online :D (or have fresh corpnewbs plot some psycho course to a 0.0 area, hehe.
Would have to figure some kinda solution hehe.
Maybe some kinda pre-program course for the navcompi of the mothership to have the thing move around. The CEO could set the security system limit, so that nobody sends it to nirvana 0.0 .
How that sounds? :)

i like homewrold, i also think there should be salvage ships. like you and your mats (10 of you) go out and and fly around in toyr salvage ship no weapons or slots but a button called attach, if lots og you attach your selfs to a ship you can drag it (warp) to a station and the when you dock the ship is intantly reprocessed and you share the minarels between the 10 or what ever of you all. this could only be done in 0.1 and 0.0 but it would be fun!

This was about mothership class, not titans, if IĈm not mistaken
Anyway, the titans are already meant to be mobile, they are ships, not stations
The idea of a mothership however is to have a ..semi mobile.. although mobile HQ for corporations large enough to afford and support it
(I can't wait to see a titan fly past me in EVE, the massive metal heap looking like a moving city in space, it's going to be great!)

Yes, the salvage frigate in Home World was very cool, you could (given you had enough of them), effectively fight an enemy fleet by stealing ships from it by use of salvage frigates.
Would be a nice addition to combat/piracy. -------------- When you have exhausted all possibilities, remember this - you haven't. ------------------ (Thomas Edison) |

Here's one idea maybe how to hide big muthaships and the use of planets in the system:
Those who are trusted navigators (or CEOs) for the mothership that have no warp-restriction can "park" the Mothership at the nearest planet if they wish.
(Each Corp can only have one mothership)
When entering the planet's area, lets say 15km from the planet, the Navi would have to plot a course to the planet. When in a certain range, the player can then choose "engage low geostationary orbit position" or whatever :D
The mothership would disappear, something like cloaking or so and not be visible or targetable to any players or pirates. However, players can only dock or depart from the mothership when it's in high orbit again (in active space mode or so) - or no docking, so that there is some fairness for those who wish to attack ;)
Members of the Corp. would also have a button to know where their mothership is currently positioned. Hiding at low orbit, the players could then go offline or afk without worrying about incoming targets.
Sounds oki? :)

The idea of the salvage frigate is awesome. in home world it came in very handy. in eve i don't think taking control of another players ship would work. in Home world there was one player controlling many ships. unlike eve where there is one ship to a player. maybe a disable feature would work so the player would either have to have a drone fix it or get out and leave or something of that nature. But this mother ship idea is great.

This is an old old, thread, motherships are in the game. though not quite like this, no need to go dig out old threads though, just start a new one with your idea. ------------------------------------ Soni-Corp Co-CEO
