Free from school today, what to do? I really should be studying today but probing mission runners is so much more tempting.
I start my search for mission runners few hours after downtime. To my horror system are really empty today. My only other option is studying so the choice between keep looking and stop playing wasn't a difficult one.
Hours later I'm starting to get really bored. A pirate DOOM gang consisting of a vagabond and a hurricane starts harassing my alt in his harbinger at a gate. They soon get sentry aggro and I jump to the gate with my mains lachesis. My plan is to get vaga on one side and pop the hurricane with the help of sentries on the other. My plan somewhat succeeds and I end up with my alt and my main on the same side as the cane who now got aggro. However before the cane is in structure the vaga jumps in, I know he can take down my lachesis in 10seconds so I warp away. The cane jumps out half way through structure. The vaga warps off as well.
I warp back to the gate and linger for a bit hoping to get some more action, but also realizing I had my best chance already. To bad alt didn't have a disruptor on his ship. A rapier now joins the DOOM gang. Mistakenly thinking I got sentries on my side (my alt does, not my main who is an outlaw) I remain at the gate. The rapier tries to bump me but doesn't succeed very well. I switch to my alt who has 2 webs on his harbinger, Im gonna move closer to the rapier web him and pop him before he knows what happens 12km... 11km.. 15km wtf! He bumps my main. I switch back only to see my main fly 20km off the gate. To late I realize what danger Im in, the rapier webs and scrams me. Only now I realize I'm outlaw to and wont get help from sentries. I get desperate knowing Im probably in my pod in 10 sec I engage with my alt to try and get the rapier to back off. In warps the vaga and the cane to finish me off, I loose my lachesis and my alt gets popped and podded aswell.
After some short words in local about the nice encounter we had, I turn off the computer. I pick upp my books for 15sec. Then I go back to the computer. Something inside me just tells me I gotta buy a new lachesis and harbinger now and go probe.
30min later transferring isk from my accounts back n forth I end up with a new lachesis and a new harbinger and with 10000 isk on my account. I tell my self; I gotta be really careful now not to engage something I'm not sure I can handle.
I get my helios and start looking for mission runners again. I undock and I instantly see a navy raven issue on scanner. He is within 2 AU. My heart start to pump a bit.
200 sec later I get my results and the raven is there. My heart is beating faster and faster every second. I shouldn't engage something that big when I'm this low on isk but I cannot resist it. I don't even know if my T1 fitted harbinger and lachesis with malkuth launchers can break the tank. I switch ships as fast as I possibly can and gang warp to the gate.
First 3 rooms are empty, my heart beats even faster what If I wont make it in time?
I warp through the 4th gate. And there he is with only a few NPCs left.
I damp and scram him. He starts heading for the next gate in the mission, alt isn't in yet BC warps to slow. Luckely one NPC webs him. He finally gets in and put his 2 webs at him. Raven is now moving at 2m/s.
His tank holds 100% I cant even touch it. I activate my neutralizer and hope it will push him over the edge. Few minutes later his tank starts to break. I convo the pilot thinking I'm gonna ask him for a 500m ransom (as the good stuff on navy ravens always gets blown up according to forums) but he logged. Now his tank drops really fast.
NPCs gets the final shot at him so no kill mail. But I loot the wreck and theres lots of T2 stuff and 2 named shield boosters one of them a Pith X-Type X-Large Shield Booster. I always say I think ransom is better but today it wasn't.
Loot worth 1.3 - 1.7 bill new personal best

All right first of all, you have 0 risk when hunting mission running ravens. What, you think he's got a webber, and an AB and a disruptor in those med slots of his? Worst that can happen to you is warp away.
Secondly, look at the wrecks near the raven to get an idea of what NPC's he's fighting. Many people will fit specific hardeners for specific rat types, and that will often give you a clue what kind of resists he is running. If you use lasers and he's fighting bloods, your damage to his shields is going to be miniscule.

I'll add to this, my own personal worst just 2 nights ago
(reason number x not to carebear after being a pirate)
running lvl4 with a friend on my alt, shiny faction fit CNR and I think it willbe funny if I nos him. He won't know where his cap is going (was way tired) lock engage nos, whats this "you have engageed in a criminal act" what a noob mistake
lost CNR, thon's boost amp, gist b-type photon, gist b-type therm......about 1.3bil
survived.....gist c-type xl shield booster (moral victory)
