Hoping I am not 'special' somehow and am missing something obvious but for some reason while flying in space I cannot get a close zoom on ships (my own or others). It seems the bigger the ship the more I am prevented from zooming in. Here is a picture of a Paladin I tried taking. That is as close as the zoom would allow me to get. Here is one of my own Abaddon which likewise kept me far away.
Is there a graphics setting or something I need to make? I have an 8800GTX if that matters (certainly is capable of handling the graphics).

1 right click - and hold 2 still holding right mouse buton.. move mouse about a bit 3 with right mouse button still held left click - and hold left mouse button(this activates a super zoom style mode) 4 You should now have both left and right mouse buttons held 5 With both held move mouse up for mega zoom in
SKUNK
Edit TESTED - and it works. Allows you to zoom in close enough for a ship light to fill the entire screen
Make sure you do the above steps in order for the close zoom. Dont just hold both buttons down or it dosent work.

When I started the game you used to be able to use the mouse wheel to zoom in a lot closer to the ships, even to the point where it seemed like you were about to hit the end of a hauler.
About a year ago there was a patch and it all changed, never worked out why, but they made it so you couldn't zoom in so far. It also seems like you can get cloder to a frigate than you can a BS so all the ships take up about the same amount of space on screen which screws up any sense of scale.

Just because you can't zoom in doesn't mean people who know how to do it can't zoom in.
Skunk already told the sikrit, just use the information.
I pew therefore I am.

Trouble with that is you can't rotate the camera while zoomed in.
This bug keeps popping up. They fixed it recently so that you can zoom in fully on objects smaller than your own ship. But it looks like it's going to get reintroduced with the next patch. --------------------------------------------------------------------

I found out you can rotate while zoomed in like that, but its kinda weird.
when you hold the right mouse button, zoom in to where you want. then let go of the left button, and click again, then you can move the mouse left or right and it will rotate the mouse. you have to keep holding the right mouse button. you can only rotate left and right not up and down (pitch)
TBH it's kinda of a 'hack' way of doing it. I'd rather they just let us zoom in nicely with the scrollwheel and leave it at that.

There is a need to differentiate between changing camera position and zooming in.
Zooming in is when you hold both mouse buttons, but it is not a viable solution to this problem because it changes your field of view to be crappy small, and it makes you very disoriented.
Changing camera position is what you do with your scroll wheel or just the right mouse button. And there seems to be a limit on how close you can get the camera, which is a crappy thing by all standards

When I tried the above feature it locked the zoom and I was able to rotate my view with the zoomed in method.   ============================================
