because i like to keep as little "dead" time between skill training as possable i try and time it so whenever one of my skills is going to be complete i will be able to be able to log in and put up the next skill. but sometimes this cannot be the best time ( like at 3 in the morning) so i thought maybe there could be a feature in the game that allows you to Que up a limited amount of skills ( maybe like 4 or 5) so that once the current skills is done training another one will pop right into training that way it would make for a bit more convenient to train skills without waking up at 3 in the morning and putting another skill on the burner
just a suggestion from your pal Daggaroth

The horse is officially dead already, no need to beat it even more. Skill queues have been requested since Beta. It is very doubtful that it will happen. 4.5 years of asking has resulting in the same reply. The DEVs want people to interact with the game, even if that is just logging in to change skills.

well that may be true that they want us to interact more with the game but if there was even a Que of one skill after the current one it would help out with the "dead" space if you are unable to login. but i do see the side of interactiveness with the game. I've only been playing this game for a couple of weeks, but not being able to queue skill training is definitely necessary.
Yes, it would be much easier to queue skills up. It would be easier still to be given a list of which skills to train in which order. Or start with all the skills and be done with it.
However, as it is now, you the player have to make choices. Which skills do you want to train? How can you best fit your training in with your real life schedule? And that's part of playing the game.

This is one of the big challenges in Eve, fitting skill training around your RL schedule. Yes a skill queue would be a nice addition but I think that you will find that it will make skill training too automated. Eve would loose some appeal if a queue was added. After awhile you will learn that missing a few hours isn't a huge deal and will stop sweating about those skills that end at 3am, or you will learn to set long skills while you are away.

Yep, if I know that I might not be able to be there to switch a skill, I just put up a long one (Barge V will take nearly 20 days), so that there's no risk of time being wasted.

Personally I dont want any skill queueing at all. Yes it makes it challenging and even frustrating having to be on the ball with your skills, but I see that as a good thing, a plus point for Eve, something to be proud of. As it happens I have heard rumpurs of a limited queue system (1 skill) being looked into by devs and whatnot. If it is implemented I will use it, but I will think of it as a weakening of the game, and possibly the thin end of the wedge that leads to kiddyfying the game.

The DEVs have been saying that they will look into a queue of some sort for 4.5 years now. Adding a queue is dumbing down the game. People say that it will help people farm characters, which there are probably already macros that they use for it anyway so farming is a moot factor, imo. There is just something about having a queue that will detract from Eve. It's not a big deal really but Eve will be lacking that little challenge of getting online to change over that skill. We should be glad that it isn't based on our time in-game. If it were then you would be sitting in login queues every night just to get on.

When I'll be away for a while (work, sleep, whatever) I set long skills (9+ hours). When I'm playing, I switch to the short skills that are left over to finish them up. For an extra assist in figuring out what skill needs to go next, I use EVEMon. (get it from BattleClinic.com)

There's a rumour about that this will be fixed soon (ish).
The way they're planning it is this:
1. you set a long skill training 2. you set a short skill training 3. both skills train at half the normal pace, until the short one finishes and then the longer one continues at normal pace.
I really llike this idea, because I can complete all of those crappy little 5,6,7,8 hour skills that are too long for normal game play and too short for work/sleep breaks (as it stands I do 3 hours one night, set a long skill over night and do another 3 hours the next night to get a 6 hour skill done). This method will also progress the really long skills, but get the shorter ones out of the way quickly.
I can't remember exactly where or when I saw this, but it was written by a Dev.
Cheers Falka

Edited by: Shanur on 29/11/2007 08:15:57 I hear it is more likely that CCP will make a mobile client that allows you to log in with your cellphone to place market orders and change skill training than that CCP will implement skill queues.
Anyway, this is the wrong forum to discuss WISHES about the game. Newbie help is better for discussing the game as it is.

and then whats to stop me from queing exhumers V, Battleship V, so and so V, on my ALT whatever and then stop paying for the account until they are all done.
Last time i quit the game i set exhumers V and cruisers V on both my accounts.. its nice to come back to that for free.

If they want to add skill queuing so people can fit skill training into their real life schedule, and yet keep it from being abused they should do it this way.
Setup a limited queue that only holds a queued skill for 24 hours. If the current skill finishes training within that 24 hour period it starts the queued skills. If it is not finished training in 24 hours, the queue is cleared and nothing will start up when the current skill is done.
This way people can train one skill and queue another for one day. This gives people the option to cover a 24 hour period with a queued skill, but not allow them to queue two super long skills and cancel an account. It would not allow people to farm accounts.
