Thanks to fourm assistance, I got EVE to run by disableing my hardware firewall. (It was failing to "aquire bulk data".
However, I had to compleatly disable my firewall in order to do so.
The odd thing is that all XP machines on this network can access EVE just fine with the firewall ON.
It's specificly a Vista / Firewall / EVE issue. I've disabled all Windows/software firewalls but I really need to re-enable the router firewall.
I tried just lowering the MTU rate to 1000, but no luck. Any idea what the EVE / Vista / Firewall issue could be?

Edited by: JoDirt on 28/11/2007 18:09:35 Vista - go to control panel, double click firewall, click allow program through firewall, select eve. That's it :)
oh and disable any antivirus included firewall crap that might be loaded, like Symantec's crappy firewall. god i hate that thing.

Thanks, but I've already disabled the Vista firewall. Any idea how to do this on a business router? I have a lot of settings available in the hardware router config, which IĘm vaguely familiar with, but nothing as simple as just allowing EVE access.

You really shouldn't disable your firewall imo. typically hardware firewalls implicitly allow outbound traffic, unless configured otherwise. What kind of firewall is it? you would assign a static ip address from your internal network to your pc, then port forward the appropriate ports to that static ip address.

I agree, disabling it is not really an option. ItĘs a Linksys/Cisco RV016.
I have it set to ōallowö all LAN out-bound traffic, but thatĘs not good enough for EVE which must send data which is being blocked.
Do you have any idea what IĘd need to configure in order to allow EVE to work?
As I mentioned, this ONLY applies to the Vista / EVE config. The router and itĘs firewall works fine for XP / EVE.

As I understand EVE uses port 26000 for TCP. What port for UDP?

Anyone?
I've opened a TCP port (26000) for eve on my firewall but I've been told that UDP communications are also required. I've opened the basic ones (SNMP on 161 and TFTP on 69) with no luck.
Eve logs in at this point but hangs on the "entering game" screen.

I'm pretty sure EVE just uses TCP. I've played it on my uni network which has all UDP traffic blocked.

According to GM Retrofire:
"If you use Add port make sure you add an exception for both UDP and TCP for port 26000 "
But what you say seems to be true too. I have all UDP traffic blocked and EVE works fine on XP, but Vista will not connect unless I take down my firewall compleatly.

I have no problems with the firewall in vista and EVE.
Try running the game as an administrator.

Ya, I've tried that too.
It is the firewall, all i have to do is disable it and i'm right in eve. but no firewall isn't a good idea. (especially with how much time i spend logged into eve!)
