I am just wondering with the recent changes made to mining if any thought has been put into lower sec systems and less rare ore types.
I fully understand why the current changes were made to 0.0 systems with rare ore types but I really don't understand why these changes seem to globally effect all mining in general. With the higher risk in the 0.0 systems the reward is worth it. However in lower sec space such as 0.3 mining Jaspet in a group just doesn't seem worth it. Especially when one could just go mine Kernite and make the same money alone vs working with a group mining say Jaspet.
I guess what I am trying to say is does the current system work when taking into account different levels of player advancement and risk vs reward?
I am new to the game and still working on bringing up my skills to a point where I can be effective in pvp and with that said most of my time is still spent mining. With the recent changes it looks like players in my situation are limited to empire mining operations since it's either to hard or just not worth it when you get into 0.4 or lower.
With the exception of large Corporation mining ops in 0.0 it's still hard to be online when a Corp decides to do some mining as a group. I mean most of us work and have lives so it's hard to balance the time we do have in the game.

the problem with 0.0 is tritanium, whp in the right mind wants to mine veld and scord under battleship protection and 15 rats in mwd cruisers "Teh lord of Nonni"

Kaledon is absolute right. If you calculate the value of a mined m¦ of ore, the difference between Hedbergite with 68 ISK/m¦ and Omber with 51 ISK/m¦ isn't worth the risk (Calculation based on NPC prices). The gap between the rats in 0.5 and the rats in 0.4 is much to big - bigger than the payout, and that leaves the risk of getting cought by a PKer out of sight. So i'm mining my way in 0.5 - i see no chance to survive in lower sec spaces and gangmining is a "hard to organize" thing...

Yup. Scordite is worth almost as much as the highest end ores now, at least with the rising price of pyrite

I crunched some numbers a few months ago and, with the exception of veld, most ores are worth the same amount of isk per ship load. So mining in .3 space is about the same, moneywise, as mining in .8 space. The only real difference is the rats are bigger. Veld is the exception since it only produces about 65% of the other ores value. Do the math. You will see that the difference between the various ores per ship load is about the same isk wise.

Have they raised NPC difficulty AGAIN? I've never seen a spawn in Empire space I couldn't easily kill in a single battleship, even using only 4 guns (and 4 mining lasers). They might be too big to solo using only heavy drones, but the drones PLUS a few guns will do in multiple cruisers while still leaving turrets free to mine with. After all, solo mining SHOULD involve bringing some firepower along with your miner 2s...

I won't disagree with the risk of being caught by a PKer, since I haven't seen one yet and have no experience on it, but I'm flying about in 0.3 space and the only difference between the rats in 0.3 space and 0.5 seems to be that there are a few with missiles, which are only called in when you blow up the easy ones.
