Yup, a thousand threads on Trinity I know but I couldn't find any info on this subject. Well we are all seeing the new ship, station and gate models now with the release of the graphics update on the test server. I am wondering have these also been overhauled on the classic client too? Will the stations and gates be any different or will we see the same gates and stations as we do now? Also, stuff like the slight model changes or the new colors on the ships will the classic client get these overhauled too or is the classic client just going to be what it is now?

Praise the lord they didn't, that would have been a huge waste of resources and not to mention it would make the DX8 engine grind to a hault and melt your cpu

The real question is, did they modify the sizes of the models in the old engine, so the stations are the same size in both? -------------------- ICE Blueprint Sales FIRST!! -Yipsilanti Pfft. Never such a thing as a "last chance". ;) -Rauth |

You do known that the DX8 engine is dead? The "Classic" client runs a non SM3 version of the new graphics engine ...

Edited by: Prometheus Exenthal on 29/11/2007 07:37:04 Edited by: Prometheus Exenthal on 29/11/2007 07:36:44 I sincerely doubt that the dx8 client will be going untouched. The models will probably be similar to the dx9 models sans the shader mapping.
For example: It really would not make sense in my mind to have bigger objects in one version. Bumping off objects would not be possible since the two versions would conflict.
Also, iirc someone stated that the expansion was supposed to be ~2gb. If I'm not mistaken the dx9 pack on sisi was only around 800mb give or take. What else would take that much space? New sounds & backgrounds? Unlikely. -

With the new content (No shadows, AA, or HDR) my laptop with a Go 6150 gets up to 30-50fps. That is with the new content on SiSi I get better FPS than on TQ

The old content isn't being touched. If you disable the premium mode, it goes back to a DX8 render path with the old models. They've stated that's not changing. The new content is DX9/SM3 only. |

The classic patch will only be around 20 megs. Linkage |

well... the proof of the pudding is in the eating, as they say. I spent some time on SiSi yesterday with my crappy x800pro which does not support SM3, I didn't download any extra content.
Looks like some stations (maybe all, not sure) have been updated, all the ships & gates are the same as the old version. Definitely Caldari & Gallente stations look different, minmatar I couldn't really tell as I was in some dark systems.
FPS is about 20% better, although it's hard to say definitively until it's actually running on TQ.

****. In that case, I'm damn well hoping that I can grab the full client separately and force it.
I really don't care about the sm3 things. I can run every other dx9 game under the sun so I don't see why EVE should be any different. I understand that they are laying the groundwork for dx10, but that really shouldn't cut out an entire generation of video cards.
For example: Valve's 'Next Gen' games are scalable all the way back to dx7 (!!!).
Don't get me wrong CCP have done a fantastic job, however an option to simply disable shaders (hdr/bloom/normals/phong) would give the ~30% of the player base with older cards, the newer models and textures. Sure, that wouldn't allow everyone to play with the fx, but it would act as a middle ground for those with cards that can push the polys.
Anyways, if that doesn't end up happening (unlikely) then I suppose I'll have to pony up a couple thousand for a new rig .
Edit: The UI on sisi is much better. So much so that tq hurts -
