start a cycle with your miners. Once they dunmp some ore into your hold. right click and select "jettison". This will jettison a "jet can" with 27.5k m3 capacity (significantly more then your hold). Fill it and then swap to a hauler and haul it back to the station. beware though, anyone can take the ore from your can and ore thieves love to steal it from you. ------------------------------------------------- **** Name ONE thing that your windows comp can do that my MAC cant

Edited by: Moon Dogg on 29/11/2007 12:52:19 No, you can't mine directly to a can.
Also, be prepared for thieves that take your ore from your jetcan, swap your ore into their own jetcan to trick you into taking it, and all sorts of other tom-foolery. If you respond to these folks with aggression, you most likely will end up in your pod. Basically, when jetcan mining, my best advice is that you only mine as much into a jetcan as you are comfortable and prepared to lose.

Jet can mining is very efficient. even more efficicent is using a second character to haul while you mine. Depending on what ship u mine in you can mine up to 33% more.

Dont worry, and for traps that most newbies and regular players fall into is that jet canning is not good due to a few bugs that will not be fixed. The best bet is to use secure containers, get the Anchoring ability, and use those.
Or use jet can method in an area that you are 100% positive that nobody have been to ...

Really, there needs to be a super-sized secure ore can. I'm surprised miners aren't up in arms to get one, but I guess by the time it's really important, most of 'em already have a hauling alt.
Back on topic: what they said.

Larger cans would be lovely but they would simply clog the fields with even more gd annoying cans, it's bad enough as it is.
One option would be to reduce the number of anchored cans to 1 per pilot (can get's deleted with content when char is deleted)

huge secure cans comming up regularly , and theres always an outcry about risk v reward..
as long as most devs are bloodsuckin pevats it wount get in =)
for cluttering ... just let them consume starbase charters for anchoring ... _______________________________________________ EVEpedia[Deutsch] Sign this to bring EvE TV back |

im sorry, but you are stupid or mining incorrectly in some fundamental way if your ore gets stolen.
Jet cans are great. we do not need giant secure containers. (we already have them, they are called "industrial ships".)

Happens to even those that mine 'correctly'. Many definitions of mining correctly by the way... including having a handful of miners with a squadron of ships watching over them in high sec space.
Secure canisters are a safe bet, especially for solo mining. And in small groups just starting out as well.
They are even useful for some of the older characters who place several and actually use them.

Thanks to a bug that hasn't been fixed even pulling from the jet can straight into a hauler can result in said hauler being flagged and poped by a player. It's impossible for them to do so with an anchored and passworded secure canister.

Only in systems where you cannot anchor them anymore (0.8-1.0).

*sigh* ok take a standard mining setup. your exhumer and the hauling indi. You jet your ore and a pop stopper. your hauler grabs the ore until full. the hauler returns to the station. and you repeat. your ore should never be in the can for more than a moment. and if you dont see that iteron V warp in and cloak - you deserve to have your ore stolen.
this bug you are talking about (or at least the way you describe it) seems more like a can switch. so what if your hauler is flagged to you? and if the hauler is flagged to another person then there has been a can switch, and you are stupid to not notice it, and take from it.
again. In order to get your ore stolen you must be: 1. Mining incorrectly 2. stupid.

the bug involves them shifting the ore in your can and marking it as theirs, or catching it as your hauler tries to pull from the jetcan.
So unless you use a secure container the bug can be used on you.

haha... so do you feel that letting someone sit next to your jet can is an intelligent thing to do?

Many don't realize the bug is there, so why would they be wary of another miner in the belt that has been sitting there for a bit with no problems.
Seen a few that mine in a ship, warp back with a full cargo and come back with a pvp setup on the ship and use the exploit/bug.
I use a secure can for my transfers, so no worry regardless of what they do (and if you do it right the capacity is not a concern)
Hell had a couple ore thieves get all upset because they dropped a can for a bait and switch only to have me mention you can't do that with a secure canister

Having a hauling alt is great but not essential. If you are lucky enough to have 2 characters then you will benefit from a greater mining efficiency too.
If you do have second character who can mine and haul, why not mining a few cans with both characters (depending on the mining ships you use)and use the alt to haul while you continue to mine.

The fun part is when you do have an ore thief steal from you, then you web him, jam him, and kill him with your drones. no more ore thief.

I thought any can dropped by someone else not in your corp would show up yellow in overview? Wouldn't that be a hint not to open it even if it's labelled like yours?

It does, but there is also an exploit where they can use the ore in your can to get an aggression flag on you. And it applies to their group and corporation (so that dude mining away in the same belt might just get you flagged to a few stealth bombers or nearby friends)

Get a Hulk, put the best cargo expanders on it you can and you will have near a half of a jet cans capacity. fill hold and fly back to station. Zero risk involved (at least in high sec).
