im bout to start training for one just started cap ships but am unsure what race to pick. i currently have the skills for amarr but have heard sooo many things bout the gallente one. i've watched my son tank/ fight some 40-50 hostiles by himself for over a hour but bleh i have no skills in the gallente dept.
i will be using it out in 0.0 for alliance defense and just wondering whether gallente (or any other for that matter) is worth training up for

Ok - A carrier cant withstand against 40-50 hostiles. In certain situations, 3 neut/nos/remote rep domis can beat your tank.
Now as to which one to choose...
Usually you go for the one you're closest to flying, as that usually is the race you like flying. At the end of the day they all use drones and fighters, so the only difference is tank (armor = amarr, shield = caldari) damage (gallente) or logistics on the front line (Min).
However, if you truly would prefer a bonus that your race doesnt have, then thats when you change. But 9 times outta 10, go for your preferred race.
Gallente have a damage bonus as you probably know, but it only applies when the carrier is on the front lines. Not only that, but its got the weakest tank (not that it means its a weak tank:P) One thing you do need to pay attention to is the fact that a carrier is not a solo pwn mobile. They WILL be nerfed soon, and you son wouldnt have been tanking 40-50 hostiles by himself. Or if he was, they were either frigates, or npcs.

How are carriers getting nerfed?

lol 30-40 thats alot of crap unless there pod's i think it was worked out that 30 frig's could beat a carrier tank so there is no way he tanked that many ships at once.
You said you got the skills for the amarr so no need to ask you just go amarr unless you just must have another race's carrier then unless its for its repair bonus its a waste of time training.
Gallent carrier yer its nice and all but its damage bonus its not gona save you if your support fleet can't cope your fighter's are not gona turn the fight and so your most likey going to die soon. !

Especially with carriers it is the case, that it matters more how they are flown than which one it is. They are largely similar in function, so go with the one you are closest to flying, and try and ather as much knowledge as possible on how to effectively fly it, because that is where it goes wrong 9 out of 10 times. Under optimal circumstances, 3 maxskilled officer/faction fitted nos/neut domis will kill a carrier. Not that that ever happens though.

Sorry, i dont see you offering your opinions, suggestions, or even tips for the op....
However, ill endulge in you little troll...
3 domis. Nos to keep their caps going (not as effective now due to nos nerf, but still works). Remote reps to take on the dps. And your drones to dish out the dps. Providing the carrier doesnt have a smartbomb (although he'll also whack his fighters) you will nuke his cap, thus no tank.
This is something people fail to see when it comes to carriers. They are NOT pwnmobiles. And due to this miscontrude idea, CCP take notice and nerf.
And to the poster who asked how theyre being nerfed...We can no longer hold items in our ships in the ship maintanence bay. Eg - No hauling with haulers, in your ship bay. Means that jump freighters have a role.
So before folks start flaming me, please have the experience in carriers i have. Otherwise you're just gonna fall flat on your face. And yes that means you jarni.

Misconceptions and general stupidity like that are why CCP almost nerfed carriers into uselessness. 3 T2 Nos/Neutralizer Domis can indeed kill an unsupported carrier. Once you get their cap substantially below peak recharge it's all over for that carrier, there goes around 2B ISK.
The ways in which Carriers will be nerfed is unclear. Some dev's have made a good case for diversifying carriers such that they are no longer quite so good at so many things but kick ass at one or two which you can choose based on modules and such. Other dev's have explicately called for a nerf and don't really seem to have played EVE, just looked at statistics on it. God willing, we'll see diversification which could actually be good for carrier pilots as opposed to a harsh nerfing which is unnecessary and ultimately helps no one and shafts many veteran players.
