I see that the login screen says don't use AA if you turn on HDR. Is that something that will never be possible at the same time?

What exactly is the problem with HDR and AA at the same time? I seem to be able to use both at the same time, no noticeable graphic glitches, crashes or noticeable performance decrease.

Can anybody confirm that it is even possible to use AA and HDR at the same time in EVE ? When i activate HDR, it seems to automatically switch off AA. I have a lot of spare fps, and would love to make EVE look as pretty as the trailer |

It's a limitation of older (>1 year) graphics cards. The nVidia 8000-series can do HDR+AA, dunno about ati. nullnull |

Nvidia cards cant do hardware based HDR + AA at the same time, it can be done in Half life two as its not hardware based. The games that will support it will will use an integer method that isnt as good as full precision HDR.
Nvidias next gen cards should support hardware based HDR+AA as its superior.

Bit of a dumb question... but how do you turn HDR / Bloom on and off? I couldn't see a switch for it from the normal escape menu. Also, is AA controlled via the gfx card settings rather than in game?
Cheers, Arrs

8800 nvidia cards can do HDR and AA at the same time and some ATI cards can to, but older cards cannot and some game engines just disable it outright since the majority of cards out there cant, or some engines do not support AA at all like GRAW, Gear wars (except in dx10 dumb) etc.
so newer cards can handle it if the engine supports it.

I use an 8800GTX with the "quality" setting in the nVidia options - inherent AA.
Turning on HDR in eve makes the ships either lose depth calculations (I can see bits of the farside of the ship THROUGH my ship), or go entirely transparent, leaving just an array of shiplights and glows swivelling around in space x'D

May also be worth mentioning that I've tried forcing HDR+AA using nHancer (http://www.nhancer.com)on my 8500 GT and it didnt seem to work.
You could have looked at the date of the information you are linking to.
The 8xxx series NVIDIA cards can run FSAA and HDR at the same time. It seems the issue here is application software. ...

I find it irritating that the graphics setting box for HDR also mentions bloom thus suggesting that bloom = HDR.
As much as i know of other games you either use HDR or AA, as nvidia cant do both, or you use Bloom and AA.
So i would rather appreciate an option to use real HDR without AA, or activate Bloom to get some lighing effects while still being able to use AA..

Yes it is old news - can you link me with up to date info on 8xxx series being able to run FSAA and HDR at the same time?

You can run HDR + AA on Trinity by forcing the Oblivion HDR + AA workaround in the AA Compatibility settings (I did this thru nHancer, probably a way thru the control panel as well). Seems to work fine here (8800GTS SLI).

There are a lot of references on the web, however I can't find anything official on NVIDIA's site.
Hopefully CCP makes some kind of statement on this issue. ...

It didnÆt seem to work for me. Time for an upgrade me thinks!
*Alaris - could you do a quick step through of how you set up nHancer to get it to work?*

Yeah, a lot of mixed information out there;
- If itÆs not true HDR you can fudge it with 8xxxÆs using the right tools.
- 8xxxÆs do support it but the Trinity engine needs tweaking.
- 8xxxÆs donÆt support but they will when new drivers arrive.
- 8xxxÆs donÆt support it and youÆll have to wait for the new range of g92Æs or even maybe the generation after that.

88xx do support AA+HDR. Done it myself with World in Conflict and Crysis just to name 2 examples.
