Specifically where do I find them? I am talking originally, not the ones for sale already.

The short answer is: you don't. They used to drop from convoys (apparently in large numbers) but as far as I know the drops were removed many patches ago and never put back. So the harvesters you see are left over from when people had thousands stockpiled.

Can someone else confirm this? Harvesters are no longer being created.

1.) Their used to be harvestor bp's very early in the game, no you could not buy them off market. All you die hard miners that know for a fact that there never was a harvy bp can go stroke it cause their in fact were :)
2.) They are given out as rewards for agent missions by certain corps... EVE-Online has a great database of npc corps as to what they buy, sell, and make. Look at world of EVE section
3.) Most in fact used to get them from convoy's, yes that was killed in a patch. I know peeps that still have stockpiles from when they had bp's and raiding convoy's. We used to have 100+ plus before we sold ours and the other one member got ganked :( long long time ago.
Keep in mind this was very early in the game when elite mining drones were not a fabled myth and were something of a rarity, but achievable goal.
a time when also xcel mining beams cost 350k and broke your bank buy just one of them to fit on your imicus.
now those were the days :)

shouldnt it be time for CCP to release like a mining drone1 or sumthing. i mean where in tech 2 and all we can buy are basic crap mining drones. 8 basic mining drones equals one of my miner2's, its kinda lame

CCP release better mining drones to match the fact that tech two is out? Now that would be a reasonable thing, however I fully expect CCP to be unreasonbly, and hopefully at the very least fashionably late with an idea like that

I used to be one of the "convoy hunters"....
I regret not keeping the 15000 harvesters I had... though it did buy me my thorax print... hmmm i can't complain :) Though i could have bought ALL prints had i held onto the harvesters for a couple months :)

ya its funny how we have tech2 stuff but we dont have a mining drone I yet... kind of sad. 
as far as mining makes my mining drone skills useless

It was CCP's attempt to curb inflation.
See, at the time Cu Vapors (the best mining laser for a LONG time) and harvies dropped all over the place, and the universe was full of minerals. This is back in the day of megacyte for 7k and zyd for 1.5k. If you lost a ship, replacing it was easy because you could mine more right away.
Then CCP took out the nerf bat, slapped away the harvie drops, reduced the vapor drops, and cut the asteroid respawn time so much there are STILL belts that haven't recovered from the strip mining.

just wanted to mention that from release and for many months meg was 4k, and zyd was 1k. when meg went to 6k is was an outrage;) and you must still remember the cu price wars where they went to 2mil and pushed just over before the m2 prematurely 'ahem' entered the game;)

yeah i got 1 harvester from a agent misson either a bit before or after castor cant rember was either from chemal tech or rodin shipyards cant rember which but it was just a single drone and didnt get that misson a second time before i quite doing agent missons all togehter

Ah... the harvester and the fabled Elite mining drone... how I love them both. I polish them every day.
How I really wish I'd had 1m isk back when the harvey's were going for 20k a pop.
