Now, I've never flown a Command Ship, and I know is going to sound quite N00bish.
But what does the Nighthawk really have over, say, the Drake? Besides resists, it looks to be about the same but costing a hell of a lot more. Is it really worth all the extra cost? Am I fitting it wrong? Is EFT fibbing to me (which I know happens on occasion!)

Nighthawk is really only worth it for missions. Drake is almost as good for pvp.

those extra resist make a hell of difference. The command ships also allows you to have warfare links for gang bonuses (sheild, range bonuses etc).

The Nighthawk tank is a lot stronger and it has better DPS. Couple that with the precision bonus, and the Nighthawk is a very scary ship for any small ships to be around. It can also field a strong take without compromising its DPS, something the Drake has trouble with.
A good Nighthawk fit is the following: 6 HML 2's 1 Dual 180 mm Autocannon 2 2 LSE 2's 1 Photon Scattering Field 2 2 Invuln Field 2's 1 PDS 2 1 SPR 2 3 BCS 2's
2x Shield Purger rigs
5x T2 medium drones.
That does 459 DPS on my skills and has a pretty tough tank to break.

Edited by: Verlaine Glariant on 01/12/2007 00:24:47 The Nighthawk is the best non-capital Caldari ship out there. Simple as that.

That's a noobish statement. Nighthawk is ALWAYS a deadly ship. No matter what you use it for.

500-ish DPS up to 80+ km against most targets (70-ish m expradius, 930-ish expvelo and 1500 falloff), or 700-ish DPS at short/mid range (up to 20km) against slower/larger targets, or 450-ish DPS over 35km against small (40-ish m sig) and averagely fast (1250 m/s with 1500 m/s falloff)... I wouldn't call that crappy DPS, no matter how you try to spin it. C|S|I|N|x. |

Edited by: Ipos on 01/12/2007 05:59:27 It's not a great solo ship and in a larger gang the difference between the two is rather negligible aside from the command module since by the time you do get targeted the outcome has most likely already been decided. The difference in DPS is not likely to swing the favour of the outcome either...
- However in small gangs or duos the NH greatly outshines the Drake.

Well if it is a command ship, I would think the first thing it does well is make other people in your gang look good. Truth is Truth |

*sigh* yet again people forget the most important aspect of any ship in a sci-fi game... it looks 87% cooler.

*sigh* yet again people forget the most important aspect of any argument on a forum... don't exaggerate. More like 80%

The Nighthawk is 90% of a good ship, held back only by crippled fittings. Fitting heavy missiles (not even HAMs!), a MWD (mandatory on all pvp ships) and a gang mod (it's a command ship!) takes more than your grid available at max skills. Fitting even the most basic tank (whether passive or active + injector) requires multiple RCUs. Not even PDUs, which at least give you more cap and shield, you don't have enough low slots to do that. And even if you manage to get a working setup, it's easy to run out of CPU as well!
This is of course completely absurd, none of the other command ships have fitting issues like this.

Yeah I was rather saddened that there was no boost to the nighthawks fittings in Trinity. I love my NH but it can seriously use like 50-75 more CPU and like 300 more Grid.
Although I think it should do a little bit more damage to set it apart from the drake, I'd be one happy camper if I was able to fit a decent setup that included a MWD and/or a Warfare Link
