Let's try to explain this in the simple way:
When a ship should EXPLODE at 0 HP during PVP instead of a WRECK appairing and the pod of the pilot beign launched in space, everyone will lose target, and the ship will become "disabled" in space with 1 hull, with the same normal graphic but in flames, the pilot will still be inside the "disabled ship" a "disabled ship" mail will be sent, obviously without fitting, but just with the involved people and ship type.
At this point these will be the different "choices":
1) The pilot DON'T leave the ship chosing EJECT then:
1a) Someone lock the "disabled ship" fire at it and complete the destruction, the ship will blow up and like now the pod will be launched out, the normal wreck remain in space and nothing else left, a normal KILLMAIL will be sent as usual.
1b) Someone will REPAIR the damaged ship with Remote hull reppers, when the hull become 100% a timer based on the ship "size" will start, when the timer will end, like 1m for frig size, 5m for bs size, the ship will come back "online" with all modules offline and heavily damaged as if it would have been hitted until 1hp of hull and then left alone. The pilot will be able to warp out after this etc.
1c) Someone with a proper module and MARINES in cargo (industrial for exemple) get to 1.5km from the disabled ship and activate the proper module, a "math" between the marines in the "boarding" ship and the marines in the "boarded" ship will be made, if the "attacker" wins, the POD will be ejected from the ship with force, and the "disabled" ship will be avaiable to be boarded, repped and bringed "home" with the fitting included.
2) The Pilot LEAVE the ship voluntary clicking "leave ships":
2a) The "disabled" ship will be in space alone, if someone BOARD it, then it will be possible to REPAIR it and bring it "home" as in 1b point.
2b) The "disabled" ship get shooted, it blow up as in 1a point, sending normal killmail.
This new "game mechanic" should be intresting, beacause people will have plenty of choice, like "blowing up" theyr own "disabled" ships beafore bailing, or for who Win the fight trying to "recover" the enemy ships, or your own fleet win in enemy territory and then try to send support for "recovering" the disabled ship :)
I think this could be an intresting addon to the gameplay without beign so "hard" to do... for exemple on a supercapital kill, the super cap would bring plenty of Marines in cargo trying to "resist" ad boarding if disabled, and obviously no-one would blow it up due to the value of rescuing it and this would introduce more "fun" and more choice :)
Winning a fight could result not only in LOSS of the enemy, but in REAL income for who WIN :) making even PIRATING more fun, thing that now is pretty boring sometimes... or pointless except ransoming, thing that few people today accept except freighters....
For exemple you could go around find a bs that is ratting, taking him down, then call your mate with marines, kicking the ratter out, repping the ship, and taking it home with the whole fitting :)
Using "expensive" ships will not just be a isk blackhole, but a possible "income" for the enemy you are facing!
PS:
It could be possible to introduce a proper kind of tractor beam, maybe made for t2 industrials for exemple, that could "lock" Disabled ships (without a POD inside!!) and then having them following in warp (not jump) for bringing them back in the station, and when the indy pilot dock, the "rescued" ship will appair in the pilot hangar with the other ships, with 1 hull and all modules ****** up :)
PS2: Obviously insurance will be sent only if the ship blow up, so if you get "robbed" by your ship you don't get anything, or this could be used as exploit :)
PS3: if was not clear: you can repair ship ONLY if there is a pilot inside, so somoene must board it, and then you can repair it.

You would have the choice to do it just like now ^^

it's an interesting concept. but i don't know if its a good one, ships needs to be blown up for production to be worth it. It would take significantly less to steal a capital ship than to build one. self-destructing to prevent it form falling into enemies hands is great in theory, but right now with how lag affects gameplay i don't know if that will even be a viable option.

Yea, for that i don't even mentioned to having this thing working while blowing up in npc :) but only pvp.
For resolving this issue it could be placed a 25% chance of "disabling" and 75% of normal blow up... at least it don't hurt too much...
Btw "recovering ships" is not so "simple" you need a pilot and someone that remote hull repair it...

yea, if you use them not properly you wipe everything ^^ it need a careful management even a single frigate could "break" the disabled thing! That is intended in my idea..

I think this is a pretty neat idea at least in theory... even if it has a few kinks that need to be worked out.
I like the idea of using marines in a risk-esque setup for taking ships by force. It adds some flavor and would be pretty cool to have different types of soldiers be more effective vs. some ships. For instance, those Amarrian super slave commandos are extra effective vs. minmatar ships or something of that nature.
Another point is that it would be very difficult to take a capital ship like this, because most large ships have the cargo space to store plenty of troops on board... perhaps each ship gets some innate bonuses? as in battleships start of with a marines stat of 5 compared to a frigate stat of one?
Like I said, needs to be worked on a bit but I've been waiting for ages to see those marines get implemented in some sort of module for capturing ships. I was always the one sending in the marines in homeworld 2, I'd love to see it happen in Eve.
