Back in a CSM devs mentioned something about an option in the future to land on Planets and Moons, or bases of some sort. Anyone got links or more information on this?

Planet weaponry will be in place soon, with a range of 265,000 km. This is to stop warping to planets without requesting a diplomatic clearance. It will also allow CONCORD to target anyone they feel will commit a criminal act... oh wait, they already made that movie... Minority Report.

Late this year is what was said, AFAIR. Landing on planetary bases will be awesome, if I might say so. Will add a new touch to the game. Remember Frontier?

They've said stuff about stations mining moons, haven't heard much else. I guess that means you have to have some form of base on the planet but I think that will be more part of the roleplay than an actual base that you can dock in.
I doubt there will be planet or moon "surface stations" any time soon though, if ever.
If you remember elite, you could only dock at orbiting stations, but in elite II, there was planetary stations as well, so maybe something for EVE II?

Quote: Warcry: Are there any plans to ever take advantage of the massive amount of terrain you have available on planetary surfaces? For example, stations could be colonies on the surfaces of planets, and not just floating megaliths in space, right?
Hellmar: Yes, thatÆs something weÆve been brewing up. Some players even got their hands on technical concept test of our terrain system. The time frame of this is set for sometime next fall.
This was what I was mainly interested in

wow...those 2 pics look pretty nice. it seems its at least possible to implement into the game, just might not be easy also, frigates should be the only thing able to land. a cruiser is a bit 2 big for its structure to hold in planetary environment, and a battleship wouldnt have a chance of holding its integrity. would breakup on entry

And all Minmatar ships would have to be switched for more stable vessels before landing.
