Question: How valuable does the cargo have to be before a suicide gank of a hauler or freighter becomes worth it?

id say about 200% of your ship and fittings and if you are attacking a freighter, im sure that it would be worth it if hes stocked full.

(ship + fittings + ammo + drones) - insurance payout + x
x = the value to you of the time it takes to recover roughly -0.2 sec.
for example i hate grinding rats for sec, one of the failings of EvE as a pvp game imo, who needs consequences in a game? So x for me tends to be around 100m.

Edited by: marketBoy1 on 02/12/2007 01:55:27 The value of the cargo is more complicated that simply the value. A couple questions must first be answered:
1) Is the cargo all the same and in one stack? 2) Is the value all contained in one a few expensive items (such as some faction/complex items)
If you are about to blow up a hauler that is carrying 500mil isk worth of identical datacores, then you have less than a 50% chance of them surviving. If the value is all in one or two items, you face the same situation.
Generally it is profitable to suicide haulers worth more than 300mil, you can figure at least 100mil will survive. Myself, I prefer haulers worth more than 500mil.
And the above poster is correct, the cost of the suicide ships is nominal compared to the grind to regain sec status to get back to suiciding.

What he said. I am a Xpert suicide ganker, I kill targets as soon they carry more then 300 mill isk. I really dont care if its in a single stack, if it dies to bad, but still good because the victem still lost it. The lose of 2 failed suicides can be made good by 1 succesfull one with loot containing serveral hundred millions. So as soon it contains some good loot, I attack the ship.
