So yeah... we went out pirate hunting today... wandering around between the lowsec areas between the dodi area and bei, and would have been my first pvp experience (and no, i'm not counting getting ganked in my first month when i went into low sec as pvp). We probably went through a good 20 or 30 systems and didn't see one gatecamp, and the only pirates we came across was a solo recon and a vagabond, both of whom left immediately.
This really makes me wonder what people find so interesting about pvp... 1 to 2 hours wandering around and nothing to show for it? So this leads me to ask, if i want to shoot some pirates, where do i need to go? There are forums all over the place talking about how lowsec is overpopulated by pirates and its impossible to get anything done, but seriously... 2 hours with no pirates or anybody for that matter really brings out the carebear in me, which is baaad for pvp.
So here's my question. Where are pirates and how do i go about finding them? Or do i have to go through all the trouble of becoming a pirate just to get some pvp? (note, as a thorough carebear, the second choice is very low on my priority list)

You should probably go try to pick your place to roam based on the number of belts as that's where people usually pick their pirating grounds. But then again according to corpmates I'm lucky at finding **** to kill...

Amamake belt 3-1 .
Just wait. Bring some friends.
Though it's not really pirating cause everyone's looking for a fight. ôHe who must expend his life to prolong life cannot enjoy it, and he who is still seeking for his life does not have it and can as little enjoy it.ö

Check ship kills/pod kills in the last hour before going hunting for a system. That or go to a lvl 4 search agent and type in my name or any of the other 100s of -10 guys who lurk in the C&P forum.... ____________________ Hi. I'm not an alt :) |

for that particular area i have a couple of tips:
(1) learn to speak russian, or at least to say "was there any need for that huge blob!!" and "ahh crap dead again" (2) dont expect your targets to be in actual corporation or alliance, the pirates over that way have evolved.

you wanna have some fun pew pew? come to "oulley" or "ishomilken" that kinda area anyway, id be careful what you wish for cos you may just get spanked. not all pirates sit on gates and wait to get ganked, most of them are smart enough to realise this and change tactics accordingly.
anyway back on topic come to "oulley" for a spanking

how many ships did you have with you? what class? you will be very hard pressed to get pirates to commit against overwhelming numbers. people set traps for us all the time, and after a while you get pretty good at recognizing bait for what it is. also, if you're parading around with a bunch of battleships, gatecamps that can't take you will dissolve before you even realize theyre there.

Very organized pirates often sit on the Zinkon gate in Vehan late in the day. I forget the name of the corp but there are a lot of them, 20 to 30? Almost all -10.
Nearby Sahkt and 1-Smeb are always hot beds of pirate activity, gate camps are common. Break those up and many honest traders and miners will thank you. |

well I know that Lonetrek/Forge have sevral alliances very close by. We were just up there about 2 weeks ago on a "field trip" it only took the local "alliances" about a week to get to know us....once they did we quickly got blobed everytime, and I mean outnumbered at least 3-1. Also minnie regions have more consecutive lowsec jumps than anyother region without going through 0.0.

Veto stomps around there a lot and they are always a fun engagement (even if you lose the fight). Be ready for your gang to be ganked if not by Veto then by one of the other gate camps or roaming gangs. Theres pirates everywhere, you just have to know where to look. Yarr ____

We got to do something to pass the day at work
As for the op and not finding gate camps. What was you fleet how big? What ships? Someone said it earlier and I'll reinforce what they had said. If your rolling a gang of BS CS and logistics and not seeing someone there is a reason. Gatecamps are our daily business kind like how mining and manufacturing is yours, we smell a gank squad from 4 jumps out and our gate camp is disbanded long before your scout jumps into the system.
So either change your tactics or just go back to mining because obviously what you were doing isn't working... We usually won't put ourselves in a position to lose ships.

I'm surprised you guys haven't evolved yet, and camp with pvp fittings. If an even sized or slightly larger gang comes to bust you up, there is no docking up, there is a slug fest.
Of course they are going to run after you dock up, refit & regroup because the fight is no longer on their terms.

the reson we dock up is so the people that are not in combat ready ships (their sole setup is for gate camping nothing else IE a smartbomb ship) to get into a ship that is useful for a fleet battle.
also we never get blobed when we have the numbers on the gate where we would be fine sitting there while the others get in new ships. we only get blobed when there is 6-10 of us and by 25+ people.
but why camp with pvp fittings you will miss the small ships that have all the isk worth of stuff in the hold. you can't catch shuttles and inties (which people use to transport BPs rigs and implants) with a pvp fitted camp. you also can't lock fast enough and have enough points to catch blockade runners(though it is still hard) with a pvp fitted camp. yeah you won't have to dock when you see most blobs (unless if it is a group that always have capitals ready to jump in that is) with pvp fittings but you won't make as much isk 'cause you will miss the ships that usualy have expensive stuff.... though killmails where you see 90+ implants go boom kinda suck
oh and i know a huge part of gate camping income is from ransomes. but even though we always honor ransomes we still usualy get the "F*CK YOU" type replies when we try to ransome... hell earlier today someone said "kill me i only have +4 learning implants" when we tried to ransome his pod for a good bit less than the implants are worth... it made me cry -------------------------------

but why camp with pvp fittings you will miss the small ships that have all the isk worth of stuff in the hold. you can't catch shuttles and inties (which people use to transport BPs rigs and implants) with a pvp fitted camp. you also can't lock fast enough and have enough points to catch blockade runners(though it is still hard) with a pvp fitted camp. yeah you won't have to dock when you see most blobs (unless if it is a group that always have capitals ready to jump in that is) with pvp fittings but you won't make as much isk 'cause you will miss the ships that usualy have expensive stuff.... though killmails where you see 90+ implants go boom kinda suck
oh and i know a huge part of gate camping income is from ransomes. but even though we always honor ransomes we still usualy get the "F*CK YOU" type replies when we try to ransome... hell earlier today someone said "kill me i only have +4 learning implants" when we tried to ransome his pod for a good bit less than the implants are worth... it made me cry
What I'm saying is all non tacklers/support fit for straight up pvp. Smartbomber will obviously have to warp out, everything else including lach/huginn & logistics stay.
BCs with heavy tank for anti-sentry work are a waste on a gate IMO. I'd rather have a BS with 1 large remote repper, light tank and good gank with me, vs. a tanked up BC.
I know you guys do good work in your camps. Problem with most camps is people bring what they want instead of what is needed.
I first saw Turbulent use pvp fittings back in the day during a camp and initially, I questioned the logic, but after seeing the power, I slowly changed my stance.
Heavy on BS presence, everything fit for gank, except for tacklers & logistics with a touch of EW and the only way to break it is to come with superior numbers.

yes but then you get people like me who get bored fit a hac and engage in obvious setups the best part it when you kill a BC or BS with 4+ people on you before you pop
I'm surprised you guys haven't evolved yet, and camp with pvp fittings. If an even sized or slightly larger gang comes to bust you up, there is no docking up, there is a slug fest.
Of course they are going to run after you dock up, refit & regroup because the fight is no longer on their terms.
Do you even play anymore Slice? Or just critique on the formus you poor excuse for a ceo. |
