Fellow posters, would it be rude or inappropriate to provide the OP with a link to the WoW site?

Would possibly be a good idea. Although his spelling may be even too much for the denizens of Azeroth to bear.

how about do what all new players should do (and are automatically set on the path of doing): PLAY THE TUTORIAL
the tutorial covers not only the vast majority of things you can do, but tells you exactly how to do them.
i suspect you simply cancelled the tutorial immediately and said to yourself "lol, tutorials are for noobs, i'm awesome, i'll just figure it out"
well here's news for you, eve is not like other games, it's not like wow and ever quest, and all those other hack and slash grind-o-thons out there, so when you start eve, you really ARE a noob, we all were at some point, complete the tutorial, then come back - you'll have a much better idea of what you can do in the game, and we will be able to advise on the pros and cons of each path available to you ========================================== that's no moon... oh, wait, yes it is, the space station's out the other window. |

Wow, frosty in here. 5 replies and only 2 offered a reply, the rest just insults. Nice. I’m sure the devs love people like you that insult the first noobe that comes to the forums.
Oh well. Lesson learnt.
Thanks to the other 2 for the replies. I thought I would ask as someone who has been playing a while as they can often point you in the right direction quicker than reading pages of the manual or performing hours of tutorials.
And for the record. I have never played WOW, I hate stupid pointless frag fests and enjoy a more in depth game playing style.
Your intuition is almost as bad as my spelling.

You can only skip the tutorial if you know what it is you're doing.
You clearly don't. Off to the tutorial with you.
And if you don't like having to take the time to do things, then EVE isn't for you.
Oh, and stuff the noob rage. The devs aren't your best buddies just because you're a new sign up. _______________________________ I need new voices in my head, To speak my secret evils with. I need new lovers in my bed, To be my friends and special pets. |

Do the tutorial. Simple as that
In eve we do not like people who will not try them self and just want a quick way through life, Do the full tutorial then if you till have problems we will be glad to help

If you'd spent the time to look at the forums you'd know a question like this belongs in the new Citizens Q+As, but then thats probably the same reason you didn't do the tutorial. You would have good better answers there I can asure you. _______________________________________________

Edited by: Balthasar Moreq on 02/12/2007 15:17:59 Welcome to EVE and welcome to a world of smacking, greifing, scamming, ganking and the best time you will ever have playing a MMOG. EVE has a learning curve like the slopes of Everest and its pretty unforgiving, BUT its not impossible. Do the Tutorial, not all of it, but do the basics around ship piloting/combat etc. Complete the 1st mission your tutorial agent gives you and then you can begin.
A word of warning about EVE, there is no power leveling like in other MMOG's, you will allways be outclassed in wealth/skills/eqiupment and experience by older players, but you can still kill 'em. Once you've got the the hang of the basics join a player corp ffs, find one that fits what you want to do and take it from there. Despite the sometimes hostile reception you get on the Forums, in-game you will be suprised by the ammout of players who will help new players out, so long as you don't act like a total tard and are at least a smidgen humble and deferential. There are also a few Corps who specialise in taking on new players and teaching them the real fundamentals of EVE, like EVE University.
When my char was about one month old i was struggling big time running missions and totally by chance i saw a conversation in local where an older player was helping another new player with set-up advice. I asked the older player for some help myself and i've flown with him and his alliance ever since.

obear71, I'm afraid that these forums are the domain of an enormous number of trolls. Any question gets insults and smacktalk pretty much instantly.
Don't let it get to you, they're mostly just kids with nothing better to do.
As for ideas of things to do, may I suggest a couple of links:
Agony Unleashed. These guys run a PVP university, which rocks. If you want to learn how to get into fun PVP, even as a 3-week old newb in a frigate, then AU are a great place to start.
The Goonfleet Wiki. Someone described Goonfleet as like a cross between drunken orcs and football hooligans. While this is a pretty accurate description (as is "the scum of EVE") their wiki has some great information for a starting player. Just remember never to actually trust a goon :)
And if you wade through the rubbish, trolling, spam, whining and epeen-waving that constitute roughly 70% of these forums then there's a LOT of useful info buried.

ok so the guy skips tutorial and also posts in the wrong forum, he needs help and you act like an idiot ? you are the one who needs to go to WOW and your brown-nosing friend who posted after you
If you think the WOW forums are bad then read all the different gaming forums around the world who tar all of us on EVE as 12 year olds because of the infighting on the forums. you , and all the other trolls should be a bit nicer once in a while

Edited by: The Snowman on 02/12/2007 17:09:21 dude, look for missions from agents!..
And dont fight anyone unless you know what your doing, or your in a gang that does.
once you start doing missions and earning some money, start thinking about upgrading your ship with more expensive stuff that will help you do missions faster! (check out ship fittings forum)
missions are a good way to start learning the game and building up some cash.
As suggested though a very good idea would be to join a corporation! - But id wait until after trinity for that because there is going to be a new Corp Recruitment Board!
Presumably where you can shop for a suitable crowd.

Do the tutorial. Seriously. I'm relatively new (been playing a few months) and I'd probably still be lost floating around in space if I hadn't done the tutorial.
This is a complex game and while documentation exists, it's more reference material once you know kinda what you're doing.
Open the in-game browser and read the New Player Guide also, but the tutorial is the #1 way to learn the basics and if you don't do it, you'll be treated with at least some hostility instead of helpfulness.
There, I've done my good deed for the day. :)
