Specifically I am looking at large engagements where theres lots of ships, and the occasional hint of nostalgia or when flying one of the ships that's going to be really fugly. I know about the upgrade process and all that, but once upgraded is there gonna be a way to switch back to oldskool mode? And if not, is this on the drawing board to be added in the future? _________________ [SAK] Alumnus--And Proud Of It! -- aka Cpt Bogus Is that my torped sig cloaking your base?

Edited by: Dred''Pirate Jesus on 03/12/2007 12:07:33 Yup.. Uncheck the premium content box and it goes back to the DX8 models.. TBH though premium client is looking to run *much* better in large engagements than the classic due to fully using your cards DX9 feature set.. They also just added a cache option to let you store previously loaded objects so warping into battles won't lag at all.. FF1 with 30 ships all fighting with tons of wreaks and drones doens't even as much as hiccup at warp in and runs smoothly through all the combat actions.. There are gonna be a buncha happy happy people come the 5th..

Interestingly I was playing about with this yesterday.
You can toggle between the two fine (although it requires a client restart).
However, I was getting almost exactly the same performance in space with the old content as I was with the new models with HDR and shadows disabled. (And my current Eve system is hardly top spec).
I guess everyone's mileage will vary.

Depends on the graphic card, if you have some high mainstream or highend card you are going to have a lot better performance in battles, personally i have like 90 FPS in 15 vs. 20 battle, guns blazing, at 1600x1200, HDR on, Bloom High, Shadows Normal with 8800GTX. Mission imposible in the old client.

Yeow.. This last patch really sent the classics performance through the roof! Just now made a fresh sisi install without the premium content and its blazing fast.. Huge improvement to just a couple of days ago when I used the classic last and it was performing spotty at best though still loads better than the old client.. Again it looks like there is gonna be a buncha happy people soon..

Yeah right, Trinity 2.0 uses DX9.0c so SM 3.0 are a must to play.

Edited by: Avon on 03/12/2007 13:17:34 You need a sm3 card if you want to display the new content.
The new trinity comes as Trinity Classic, which uses the new engine, with the old models, and DOES NOT require sm3
You can upgrade Classic to Premium (for free) if your card supports sm3. Same engine, different models and textures.

If eve works for you now it will work for you after the patch, actually it shoudl work better. BUT if you want the new shiney stuff you need SM3. - Thanks Hutch. ____

ôWar is not the dreadful end to all things as mankind fears. Conflict brings balance to nature as it adapts, mutates, and transforms itself into something stronger than before. Mankind is the master of nature because we can choose those mutations on our own accord. We can accelerate the inevitable dominance of a species. Through war, we can make ourselves stronger at the time and place of our choosing. War is not hell, far from it. War is beautiful. War is divine.ö - Grand Admiral Mekioth Sarum, excerpt from a commencement speech to Paladin graduates of the Imperial Academy, 23215 AD |

I think they need to give sticky topics a pink color so they stand out..
