Edited by: RaAshan on 03/12/2007 21:40:37 How related are news stories to actual play in EVE? The newest broadcast mentions the 7th fleet moving into the bleak lands out of the Amarr home system.
Are there any real world(eve world) implications with these snippits or are they RP only?

They probably went to the bleak lands to find some oomph.

I get the impression that relatively soon the various houses are about start shooting each other up if a new emperor is ever throned (and promptly assassinated). You guys are pretty much screwed. ---------------- Tarminic - 29 Million SP in pink Forum Warfare |

Well, it would make some kind of sense if it weren't happening in Bleak Lands of all places. I mean, who seriously gives a wet fa... about Bleak Lands? It's about as uninhabited and uninteresting as high-sec can get IMO. I'd rather speculate that someone at CCP looked into some statistics and was wondering why the whole Bleak Lands region gets less traffic in a whole month than any given Caldari one daily. Thus an "initiative" to make it more interesting...

I am hoping that the Bleak Lands will give birth to a new Amarr/Gallente pirate faction. It's one of the combinations that is still missing.

Come on, it's the BLEAK lands. That is exactly how it's supposed to be.

I really can't argue with this. How long has it been since we've had an emperor, after all?

Of course, back in "the good old days" such a news story would have been accompanied by the occasional AURORA team flying around the Bleaks in their pimped up Navy Revelations. Imagine being able to salute Admiral Saracen in local!
But nowadays, we just have to make do with a news story that's totally disconnected from actual events in space.
I'm sure that these stories are leading somewhere, but after so many false dawns I'm not going to get excited about it.

So is CCP ever going to throw the RPers a bone and give have some actual interesting in-game content related to the news? Player driven content is great, but advancing stories is also great. Imagine player driven storyline advances! Done right that's like great^2.

You mean something like Amarr commoners, seeing that there is no Emperor, are pushing for some kind of reform to bring democracy to Amarr. Backed by some Gallente people and corporations, but not the Federal authorities who see them as an internal issue, and don't want to provoke the Empire?

Yes, I'm sure the best thing to unite the Amarr Empire under a strong central banner, have a woman leading them. You guys will crumble like a house of cards under the weight of ten thousand years of repressed sexual tension. ---------------- Tarminic - 29 Million SP in pink Forum Warfare |

Yeah, i'd actually like to see more active change in the gameworld, rp related. Would it hurt so bad if we got a little amarr civil war between some dev ships in the bleak lands? Or if some station ingame was surrounded by Kor-Azor ships laying siege to it etc, it wouldnt have to be destroyed, just some sort of visual connection to the storyline ya know.
It could be like, "hey lets go to the bleak lands to check out the amarr war", or something. An incentive to investigate. Perhaps they could have 2 npc fleets, one representing Kor-Azor and another representing Ardishapur (i still wait for some interesting RP stuff from them, imo the coolest logo, the most egyptian-like). Then like, either the players could jump in the fight and kill off whatever side they didnt like (with new npc ships respawning/warping in at certain intervals to make it annoyingly hard tough). And in the end, the npc side with fewer losses = teh win!
I mean, the servers can handle normal fleet battles by the player corps, so why not throw in a fight that actually makes a difference in how the gameworld is shaped? Whatever side that wins could like, rename the system to "Ardishaptur Prime" or something.. Just something that, like, happens. Some sort of change.

Erm, wasn't a woman one of the frontrunners in the last running for Emperor? I thought it was just a matter of who happened to be the leading scion of the various ruling noble houses at the time...gender didn't really enter the equation. ------ Director, No Quarter "There is no problem that cannot be solved by the judicious application of violence." |

I guarantee you that if a woman gets the Emperor/ress' seat, you're going to see a sudden influx of female RPers acting on behalf of the Emperess.

The real issue is slavery, with many Amarrians having a great distaste for the practice, and many other loyalists feeling it is an avenue of salvation for those who are enslaved, once they accept the true faith. Other loyalists (mostly aristocrats) enjoy the cheap labor costs they accrue by having slaves tend their fields and vineyards. Having slaves aboard ships as crewmembers is a recipe for disaster, having them in cargoholds is a recipe for stench and filth.
Whatever organization is fomenting this trouble would be smart to train and arm these former slaves as a pirate faction, to continue the beligerence stemming from the slave revolt.
That being said, I'm training Minmatar warships just in case. (My other character is Amarr, got cap?) YOU'VE NEVER ROCKED 'TIL YOU'VE UNDOCKED. |
