I logged into the test server recently to play with Drones and see how the changes will work and I've noticed a few things that might need fixing.
1. After you deploy your drones you have several buttons under selected item to use. Deploy drones works, return to drone bay works, but return to orbit is always grayed out.
2. If you have someone targeted, and you have your drones selected (it will say multiple selected (5)) and you press engage only one drone will attack. (the others stay idle)
3. When you have your 5 drones selected and you press approach, it gives an order for your ship to approach the enemy. I don't think there was ever a way to just send drones to the target in the first place but I'd really like to be able to tell drones to go approach something.
4. Bandwidth vs training? I hope that with the introduction of bandwidth that we could use more of the smaller units than we could before (instead of fewer heavier drones) but I can still only deploy 5 drones due to the skill restriction. I was really hoping that the skill would be ignored and the limit to drones would be how much bandwidth you have available, what is the purpose of having bandwidth if you are still limited by using the additional drone module which is a cap ship class item? I'm missing something about why that is being changed.

Agreed. For the love of god make bugreports! Lots of them! or we will have to wait another two years for "drones fixes".

Personally i loved the old bugs. Watched many an ishtar blow up his own friends with out of control drones
Srsly though they're bugged badly

ye a mothership deploying 100k light drones would be fun for the server

Please file a bug report for each issue you can reproduce, there are instructions on how to bug report in the top sticky on this forum. It is best to file separate bug reports for each issue and make very precise reproduction steps so the bug hunters will clearly see where the problem lies.

Drone controls/AI? Broken?!! STOP THE PRESSES!!!
If anyone thought they'd be working in Trinity ... I'd like to know what they were on.

So why are they introducing the idea of bandwidth? Are they going to add more powerful drones that use more bandwidth so you can only deploy 2 before hitting the bandwidth limitation?
I am not aware of them adding any new drones so why are they adding bandwidth?

If everyone had 10 drones, there would be no fleet battles. Only client crashes. Lets restrict that ability to a ship that isn't prominent in a battle, the carrier. Plus, the carriers only real ability in combat is the ability to control more than 5 drones/fighters or logistics.

Bandwidth was a nerf to make smaller ships unable to launch larger drones in large quantities (myrmidon launching 5 battleship class weapon equivelent drones, thus going from the highest dps BC to close to 1000 dps)

Lol yea,I personally dont want "Drone Bandwidth" as there is no further reason to skill lets say carrier 5 or adv drone interfacing 5 at all now, as it wont add any more active drones
VOTE NO ON DRONE BANDWIDTH! Insert Catchy Signature Here

That hurt my brain. Drone bandwidth is amazing, and opens up alot of possibilities for adding new drone boats. Learn basic math or get a calculator.. 375 divided by 25 is 15. 375 being carriers drone bandwidth, their ability to launch their MAXIMUM ammount of drones in unchanged.

hmm i guess it is true, but with a drone bandwidth of 375,they can launch how many heavys? like 30-40+ or so? with t2 Ogres they can deal close to the dps of 15 fighters, which saves a lot of iskies altogether Insert Catchy Signature Here

Edited by: Ezekiel Sulastin on 04/12/2007 19:57:24 Edited by: Ezekiel Sulastin on 04/12/2007 19:55:45 Drone bandwidth was implemented specifically to allow drone ships to gain larger drone bays without gaining DPS with which to field "many waves" of spare drones, while allowing non-drone ships a few spares in the hold - an un-nerf if you will. At least, that's what the devblog about it said ...
HA. HAHAHAHA. That's a good one. In reality, it was implemented mainly to nerf drone ships, provide a couple minor buffs, and not much else :)
(In all honesty, they are probably working the rebalancing numbers to enable the original intent as we speak. It's just that as it stands, there is a huge dichotomy between what was said and what is.)
Also, we've blown this battleship-class weapon thing out of the water many times (LULZ Vexor and Myrmi still get 3, Ishtar HAC gets 5). They did it mainly to nerf raw DPS. And now it is FAR from the highest DPS BC, esp. if you don't use thermic drones ;) Y'all got your wish.

...except you can't launch 30 or 40 of ANY kind of drone, not even with a Mothership. Carriers and Moms are the ONLY SHIP IN EVE that can bypass the usual "5 drones max at Drones V skill" rule, and even they are limited by how many Drone Control Units their pilot can fit and what the pilot's Carriers skill level is.
Have you ever even USED drones before?

I totally support this.
so for those Concerned about lag... well. then they put a cap on the bandwidth didn't they? and nerf carriers and Moms. they can be limited to how any they can deploy.

Actually, that's not true. The Guardian-Vexor can launch up to 10 drones (look it up under the variations tab of the Vexor). However, it's a limited issue ship and only a handful of them exist. My research services Spreadsheets: Top speed calculation - Halo Implant stats |
