title says it all.. pretty please, for us who don't have super laptops but not 10 year old rusty computers, is there going to be a middle between the two? Its sucks for us to stay with the 3+ year old graphics client while our buddies have great looking models. Thanks alot

*sigh*
Everybody gets the new graphic engine, ships already look different (a bit, not much, but still) as on TQ. Wether you select the new models or not, that's your choice.
What do you suggest the "middle ground" could be ? I mean, seriously, WHAT ?

well, personally i don't see a difference at all between the old ships and 'new' ships on singularity. There isn't much of a difference at all. All I'm asking for is is a lower quality premium that doesn't take up too much resources, not almost the same thing.

It is a bit strange they hold it to shader model 3.0 though, i mean, even high end games today (like Oblivion and Stalker) allow you to use earlier shader models, while losing only some of the shiner effects (stalker even lets you go right back to dx7 textures while keeping the groovy distortion effects and shadows).
The Valve survey, familiar to anyone who uses Steam, claims that about 80% of gamers still use single core CPUs and 65% still use Geforce series 5/6 cards, and Eve (Classic) was designed for even lower specs than that.
Scalable texture resolution and shader detail, effect settings (not just on/off), and a workable 800*640 resolution would open Trinity to a lot more players.
My comp runs Trinity 2.0 at a comfortable 40+ fps, but i can see a huge number of people who are going to be stuck with "classic" and are not going to be happy about it.

now here is where you missed me, what i want is a version for the computers that can't run premium, but still want nicer graphics.

Zoom out and it all looks the same anyway. I can run "premium" content from SiSi at 40-80 FPS and yet I stick with the "classic". "Premium" is just for making screenshots C|S|I|N|x. |

To the OP..

Toss on some hotdogs or soup instead of an exspensive dinner or two and you'll have a new card in a week.. Seriously there are some decent SM3 cards on there for under $50 that will run the premium content easily as long as you turn down the effects.. Sounds pretty middle of the road to me..

I'm not complaining about the new engine, it's beautiful, but IMHO I can't believe they didn't redesign about 1/2 the existing ships, seriously like 80% of the minmatar caldari ships need to be reconceptualized, you'd think they'd've taken the opportunity with trinity. ... Why do I PvP? Because I love the feeling I get when I see the pretty lights and know that someone somewhere is screaming incoherently at their computer screen. |

So you want CCP to cater to every single user out there?

Not to cater to each person, but to not set the requierment so high, I understand that its probably not gong to happen, but it would be nice if there was a better version than classic, for those that don't want to get a new comp in the next couple months, but who currently have the computer to handle it. Well, thanks anyway for responding and answering my original post.

How about instead of whining about your midrange comp you either deal with the graphics you already use or buy a new comp instead of having them create a whole new release version just so you can put off buying a decent rig for a few more months?

You mean the oh so high requirement of a $30 graphics card if yours doesn't support SM3?

More likely, you are unaware of how you can upgrade your laptop's graphic card, or it would cost too much for your taste. C|S|I|N|x. |

developers cannot support every hardware class out there. Eventually all new games will be unplayable for you. Eve might be the first, and other, much bigger developers might be able to keep in lower graphics options for older cards, but given CCPs limited resources and small size, they have to make tough decisions, and more support means more work, more testing, and MORE BUGS.
Not a good idea to do this when they already have a working version of the client for older comps thats well tested and performs in a known manner.

you have all the new content.
the graphics are not that different, barely larger polygons, different mapping. imho many ships look better in the old engine.

Most gaming companies would force everyone to move to the new engine, to make it simpler for support.
We are lucky enough to get two engines, and people still complain?
IMO the graphics are fine with the current engine. If you want the nicer graphics, invest in a system that can run the new engine.

I think the OP has a point actually, I don't see why the old client can't use more detailled models than it currently has, they could be based on the premium models, but with less polygons and lower resolution textures. I'm sure it would run just fine.
Too bad we're not allowed to modify the .stuff files, there would certainly be a way to make a graphical mod for the classic client. _________

If you are happy with Eve thus far, and can't or won't upgrade to a new video card that can handle DX9 and shader model 3.0, then play with the Trinity Classic and enjoy it. If you want prettier you will need to upgrade. Its not a matter of them just lowering the requirements for Premium. In order for premium to be what it is, it needs to have that support. The fact is that DX9 cards that support shader model 3.0 are an industry standard now. CCP is providing the best solution they can to accommodate their player base by offering support for DX8 and DX9, but understand that with the premium they are taking the steps to be deliver the best looking eve they can right now, and its bound to just get better.
The Graphics industry moves fast at times, its just the nature of the beast.

Thats what I'm saying rigel. I understand the other peoples points, but I'm just saying that they could have made a nicer looking classic version without too high requierments for the people that can't upgrade to premium yet. Thats my point, anyone have objecions?

They *could* have yes.. But I'm pretty sure that the people in your situation are few and far between so it would have been a waste of programming resources to also make newer models for the classic client.. It sucks to be stuck with an out of date laptop but as others have said *someone* always gets left out when the New Shiney(tm) hits the streets..
Sorry OP but upgrading is going to be your only solution..
