Hey all, I'm a former WoW player for 2 years and it was getting repetitive so i left and tried Eve. Well i love it and plan to stick with it after the 14 day free trial.
I read up some info on the new Trinity expansion and the awesome graphics update but my video card wont run it because of the 3.0 Shader.
Two question.
1. Can you run eve after the expansion in the old graphics settings?
and
2. If not, whats a good deal for a video card and Motherboard. (my mb doesnt have a PCI express slot, so looking to upgrade that)
Thanks so much in advance.

If you are using linux/mac, the classic version is the only choice until they implement the sm3 stuff (supposedly in january).
2. a zillion different answers here. MY OWN preferences:
a. Nvidia 8800xxx b. nforce motherboard gigabyte (my choice dujour lately).
Always shop online as the price differences can be HUGE over going to a store.
Example: the 8800GTS 640meg superclock EVGA I just purchased online was 389.00. It lists at 449.00 on evga's site, and can cost well more than 500.00 at some retail outlets.
2nd example: my nforce4 motherboard was purchased for 95.00 online. At compusa it was going for 185.00 the same day.
See this post run down of various video cards for a good 'at a glance' of what the various cards can do.

Ok thanks a lot.
The video card your specified is a tad more then i was looking, but as long as I can run the old settings, I'll be good for a little.
Thanks a lot.

Didn't need motherboards lately, but you can get a Radeon X2600XT for less than 100Ç and the card runs Eve Trinity quite well at up to 1280*1024 evenn with HDR enabled and maximum bloom.

Just a short note on the graphics card pricing. Dont buy it just yet. Run with the old graphic settings for a few more weeks. Those 8800 adapters will drop in prices within the next two or three weeks.
Happy shopping :)

1: Yes, you don't need to run Trinity with the suped up graphics.. All you need to do is to NOT install the Premium Graphics content.
2: I run Trinity with the Premium content just fine on my GeForce 7950GT (Shadow Detail: Normal, HDR: Off)
