I have a corpmate who is usually around +5.0 sec that likes to go out and do "a little bit of PvP" every now and then. Lowest I've heard him go down to was around +2.5 or so, but he's usually back up to +4.5 or even +5.0 within a week or two of L4 missions. Seing how it's increasingly difficult to raise secstatus the higher it is, how come people whine so much about getting a -2.0 to 0.0 (quoting: "it takes forever") since this guy does the much harder thing (i.e. from +3.0 to +5.0) in usually a week or less ?

Most pirates dont have lvl4 mission access and have to do ninja-ratting (often in hostile space) in 0.0 to get of sec status. +3 to +5 should take ages though 0_o Does he do several missions at once? (Read: jump between systems after each bs kill)

Most people who are -xx and have to go to -1.9 dont like to npc, that is why it takes a lot longer for them to do it, because they do something they dont like, while your friend seems to enjoy running missions and probably likes it more then pvp.

Well currently I am at -2.2 and it's a chore due to the fact I cant really use autopilot in empire since most take you via a 1.0 system. I also KNOW that I am going to enter 1.0 by accident when drunk, it's just a matter of time .
So because of the hassle, I wanted to bring my sec status back in line but after doing L1 missions (Dont have access to higher) for 2 nights and seeing that my sec status is still -2.2, I gave up. I know the best way is to rat in 0.0, but that also comes with difficulties so until I can organise myself to get out there, past the gate camps etc I'm pretty much stuck with the sec.
So in conclusion. If you have the right access to high lev agents and / or 0.0, increasing sec is probably rather easy. Without that, it's much more difficult.

Don't like npcing. When i funded my pvp with 0.0 ratting i was OK with it because hey i was making ISK for ships and mods and at the same time regaining my sec status. Right now i can make much more money per hour with other activities and after many months of ratting going after npcs just got more and more boring. So i have to do this boring **** for weeks and in the process i'm not earning as much as i could be if i was doing something else.

75/7~11 missions a day
Assuming 1 mission takes 1 hour to complete (reasonable): 11 hours strait missioning a day.
Yeah, have a nice week. Enjoy that CNR a week! Too bad I work 8 hours a day and need to sleep 4-7 hours. No time for CNR farming... --

I just mission run for a like 5 different agents till they all give me good isk/sec status increasing missions then I just do those missions over and over again (knowing what npcs NOT to kill that would trigger the mission complete) and then run it again after downtime.
Just last week I had 2 Guristas Extravaganza's and 1 "The Assualt" mission in the same system and would just warp in, kill the biggest npc, warp out and back to the gate, wait about 7 minutes and warp back in. If you time it right, you can have consistant +.19/20% sec increases every 10 minutes. (Sec timers as based on when the npc's die so I tend to just get the target to about half struct then just tank 'em till i get the last sec credit, pop, rinse and repeat)
Went from about -4 to -1 in 2 days with about 8 hours of carebear play
nice, but it still does suck having to grind out missions just because your prefered playing style. I wish they made 0.0 more accessable (somehow) to the roving independent pilot instead of just a BLOBing alliance playground

Going from deep negative to positive is the real pain. Who honestly cares how long it takes to go from +2 to +5?
When you are sitting under -5 or so, and want to sec up due to any number of reasons (corp dies, politic changes, interest in a new lifestyle) THAT's where the complaining comes in. If you are at -2.2 then go run missions for an hour or two, and BAM you're back up to -1.9 or higher. Get a buddy and run a lvl 4 with them. You don't need the reward, cause that wont give you any sec status boost, just killing the NPC's will. Mission farming, like was suggest above, is a nice way to do it. I'd just kill everything in the mission and wait for it to repop a few hours later and move on to the next one though, more isk while you are getting your sec up. The speed changes are at -2 and +2, and the closer you get to +5 the longer it takes, just like you go very fast from -2 to -5, and then start to slow down as you get closer to -10. -10 to -1.9? Oh it's only a measly 34 hours of BS farming, missions or ratting. Sarcasm, completely lost on the interweb

Akita, you say your friend can get from 3.0 - 5.0 in under a week with only a few hours a day AND he loots and salvages his missions? Exaggerate much? Sorry, but one of you does because i highly doubt that considering the closer you get to 5.0 the sec gain slows right down. You're posting this in a forum where ppl don't even know what positive sec status is so you won't get many opposing arguments ^.^

He can do it in a week if he kills battleships for 7 hours straight each day. With salvaging that would make it more like 10-12 hours a day playing EVE. That's not a "few hours" there and leaves practically no room for real life.
It takes 65 hours to go from -10 to -2 killing crappy 0.0 battleships, ones that spawn in like -0.10 systems, assuming timer is 15 minutes. If you play 3 hours each day this is 21 days(!) of ratting. 21 days of playing 3 hours each day if you spent those 3 hours killing bs, without any distractions, not hunting or being hunted by locals, not salvaging or looting missions. Hence why raising your sec status would make any pirate grind his teeth and howl. Just getting a point or two up is easy enough though and can be done within a week.

Think some people don't understand that getting -5sec can eaily be done in one fight. Pod popping ****es me off to no end knowing for me to get into high sec for a wardec I have to get into 0.0 and rat to repair it. Sec rating has to be my only real beef with this game, that and theres to much to be gain in high sec killing boars.

Multiple accounts... CNR/NH kill, ferox/corm salvage... stuff like that. He also likes to tag along with some of the newer members in the corp, usually guys in Drakes for fire support and newbies in salvage boats to clean up, most of the time it's a 5-man team running the missions (and then they complain they have time to kill moving to next gate). While I finish 5-6 missions (without salvage for me) he's got a storyline already most of the time. C|S|I|N|x. |
