Recently our corp lost a battleship to Tank CEO and payed a ransom for the survival of another.
We were out in a 0.2 system mining, when Tank CEO found us. He destroyed one of our BS and then negotiated for the survival of another.
I would just like to congratulate Tank CEO and friend for working for his living and using good tactics, plase let us see more pirates working like this.
Thanks for the work Tank. |

Yea, props to all those who _really_ are pirates.
The carebear/griefer/ganker/whiner squad out there should really take a look at the video of when Tank and Bob is out hunting. There you have some guys really playing as pirates.
Though I think they demand a too big fee. Most of these ships are fitted for mining. They will not drop loot worth more then max 10M. As ship prices has came down insurance gives a good coverage. And there is also the fact that the victim doesn't fully trust you'll let him go after payment. I'd say no more than 20M for a tier 2 ship and 15M for a tier 1 ship. Maybe even lower. Even 15/10M fees for battleships in empire would allow a good pirate to make lots of money. (outside of empire a bigger fee would be needed, as the target usually has more expensive mods and also may be capable of defending himself)

Really? Well he didn't do so well last night after he left you as his raven got blown up and his partner ran and logged when he tried to hit a mining op of some friends of mine.

Edited by: Swift on 09/03/2004 19:15:36 I think the point is that a good game needs the 'bad guys' - not the idiot griefers, exploiters and mindless podkillers - the realistic pirates, that actually let you go if you pay them their fee (if they always killed you, you'd stop paying them yes?) and act in a more realistic fashion. One of my fondest memories of years ago was in a MUD called Arctic where there was a guild called the Tarsis Shriners - they were some of the best players in the game, and also the bad guys true and true, who would attempt to kill you if you had an item they liked. If they succeeded, they were polite enough to tell you if you had been a great challenge and even told to you if you had the skills to evade them. It was all still a game with 'rules', even they were on the bad side.
Yes it was an honour to be killed and looted by the bad guys. What a thing eh? I have no problems with pirates if firstly they have the skill and the patience, and secondly they keep their word if you pay them etc (since killing someone even if they do is just stupidity int he long run and sounds like something either a griefer or an idiot would do).
Then if I lose my ship honourably in an area of space that they counted as their 'prowling area', I knew exactly what the terms were for that encounter. A good natured 'agreement' between the bad guys and the good guys is just what this game needs. Instead of mindless senseless killing Zombie style for the hell of it which soudns like what a deranged maniac would do. -----
--- 'The truth about low sec space is that it reveals humanity - the 'essence' of all the races, in its purest form. A place where Concord no longer polices or protects, 'human nature' thrives in all its distilled destructive self-serving glory. Welcome to hell ladies and gentlemen, welcome to what it really is to be human.'

What short memories you all have - it wasn't long ago that Tank CEO was a gankpirate.

My memory isn't that short having once been ganked by Tank CEO. Indeed, he did the ultimate gank when camping JIPs was the thing to do. I was a n00b in a Tristan. My screen loads just long enough to see my ship already on fire and a killing blow be landed from his battleship. So, he had my ship locked and mostly dead before I even knew anything was happening, he was camping a system noobs often travelled through, had all of a frigate to lay waste to.
Nope, I haven't forgotten. If Tank CEO has indeed taken up 'proper' pirating then props to him. I hope he and others do mroe of that instead of mindless ganking. However, one example doesn't convince me of anything so I will reserve judgement to see if this was an aberration or the new way of pirating (I hope it is the new way).

The whole point was that this game does need bad guys to survive and make it worth playing. The game does not need griefers, who kill for no reason.
Tank reminded our corp to take care in low sec space and made some isk out of it. He also stopped shooting when asked if he would negotiate, and listened and agreed to a lower ransom then he first demanded.
If you had full insurance on your ship, you might decide to self destruct or allow yourself to be destroyed, we decided not to.
I much prefer that Tank keeps this way of playing up then some of the other methods he has used in the past.
I would have prefered it if he had not found us, but its only a game.

Not that I'm a carebear/grifier/ganker/whiner... But... URL?
BTW, Blue Martini, we need more people like you as well. People who don't mail the pirate who kill them with mails about how much they suck etc.
