This nHancer is a nice tool that I haven't been previously familiar with. Is it relatively new?
I'm running on hardware that was pretty much state of the art in Jan. 2006 but seems pretty dated now with everyone seemingly on 8xxxGTX! this and that, so I thought I'd share what I'm seeing so far on my setup:
AMD Opteron 170 2Ghz 2MB L2 Dual Core DFI Lanparty SLI-DR Expert (nForce4) 2x1Gig OCZ Platinum EB pc3200 2x eVGA 7800GT SLI (driver 6.14.11.6375) SB X-FI Fatal1ty soundcard Fresh install of XPSP2 & Dual-Core Optimizer
Profile Settings for ExeFile.exe: Resolution 1600x1200 (Native for LCD)
Enhancements - AA Multisampling 4x - Gamma Correction - Multi- Anisotropic Filtering - 8x (really don't see the reason for this one though,.. it's a space game, but as such it probably isn't giving it any addl. load anyway whereas it's a fps killer in your avg.,..er,..fps shooter. Vertical Sync - Off
Optimizations Texture Filtering - Performance Trilinear optimization - On Aniso. sample optimazation - On
Compatibility AA compatibility - 000000000: gerneral compatibility (may try out that HL2 setting suggested here later) Force mip maps - Bilinear
All settings not mentioned were left unchecked and left to Eve as far as being enabled or not.
The in-game settings, Shadow Quality, Bloom, and Cache Size were all set to 'High'.
Performance is good. Still get some lag when visiting the Contested Gallente Comet in Deltole with the hundreds of wrecks floating around but nothing under 20fps, which is better than I was getting just sitting in station before I started messing with this. 50fps in station, and about 35 when orbiting a busy gate from 30km at high speed. There is alot of room for improvement, these are just the first settins I ran across that were a marked improvement over the default.
I did lose AA when enabling HDR, and maybe with some addl. meddling I can get that back. I think if I have to choose then I'll keep the AA.
I don't know if Eve even makes use of my 2nd video card as other games do. I've seen no mention of support for SLI in Trinity. If this is the case, then SLI Anti-Aliasing may be a better choice than any of the others under the Enhancements tab in nHancer, in order to give the 2nd card something to do, and it may be a good way to force AA+HDR for SLI rigs.
