Well, my corp is about to start its first manufacturing job for which we need zydrine and megacyte. Is the only way to get these by mining rare ores deep in 0.0 space (other than trading)? I've heard that the technique you use is "ninja mining", is it possible to do this with a frigate and survive?
Thanks Tannaris |

Well you can of course buy it off the market but yeah ninja mining is basically going to 0.0 space mining as much arkonor as u can and get the hell out before any alliances see u and kill u :)
Frigs are usually good because of their speed which when trying to be stealthy is a huge advantage.

well you could do that, or just go out and hunt pirates, some modules give nice ammount of zydrine and megacyte, dont recall witch ones. But armor/hull repairers give nice reward.
Together with the kill-bounty you get, it might be rewarding.. pirates in the 20-55k range is sufficent. But that all depends on your need of certain minerals, you may just aswell end up with a couple million trit and a few 100k pyerite when you rafine aswell!

So there's no tricks to "ninja mining", except fly in mind and hop out?

well staying alive is the biggest problem! survive gate blockades, don't get killed by the belt spawns aso all the high ores need loads of cargo space too so it ain't that easy.

a frigate might be fast but if you are mining high end ore you have to remember that it has a high volume and you will fit very little in a frigate hold. Also you won't find any high end ore near a station so need to take into account probably having to make 10+ jumps from the ore field to a station then back again. A good set up would be a group of you with cruisers/BS to mine and a hauler or 2 to collect the ore and move it.
If you are in frigates I would strongly suggest you simply buy the mins off the market or get them from recycling loot as the time it would take to mine it and the risks from PC and NPC pirates just wouldn't make it viable. Thats no disrespect to your set up but you will probably find it more cost effective to mine low end mins and sell them to get the cash for what you need then look at mining it yourself when you have cruisers.

Ninja mining was viable, before the last patch.
Ive been in deep space mining bis and dark ochre since my first day in corp, about 4 days into eve. I had a badger, and a miner 2. Then u did some serious belt hopping :)
Later on i and few corp mates, tok few haulers, few giant cargo containers, and placed them out in stragetic places in a belt. Used frigs to mine, then jumped in with haulers and picked up the ore. Returning back to empire is the dangerous part of the whole thing :)
The ninja minier as a profession is dead. The rats once they spawn in the belt will chase you from can to can, never waiting more than few mins to jump after you. Before you could mine in peace for 15-20 mins before anything happened. ----------------------
