Sorry to ask, but I'm thinking of getting a Blacbird and want to know the best set up for all around fighting? Any advice out there? |

No best, depends on what fighting you plan to do. Catch, jamming or hunt npc's. __________ Capacitor research |

I wouldn't recommend a Blackbird for hunting NPCs...it isn't very good at it. Blackbird is best in a PvP role. It can NPC hunt of course...just not as well as other choices. Get a Moa (also Caldari) for NPCs
As mentioned the loadout for a Blackbird is heavily dependant on what you want it to do, who you expect to face and how big a fleet is with you. Blackbird is generally a support ship (a very good one). Keep that in mind during fitting. Not saying it canlt solo PvP but it shines best when part of a group.

Edited by: Gaige Pain on 09/03/2004 22:24:33 I was killed in My Caracal by a Pirate in a BB and it was quite swift. He gave me a run down of what he had for hunting down lone players. Warp Scrambler and or stasis web, jamming devices (a helpful player suggested multispecs) I can't remember off the top of my head how many med slots the BB has but fill them with jammers and one warp scrambler. I like using launchers and a smartbomb if you have enough cap left. Basically jam him stop him and launch torps on him and smart bomb is handy for F.O.F or drones if they arent ogres as well as the chance it kills his pod. This has been so far pretty good going one on one pvp. Oh and nice to see you again Kep..tell Ray I said hi please.

Thank you guys for the info.. I will for sure be flying out as a wingman in to 0.0 for some PvP hunting. ( I guess I should have put that info in the first post ) I have noticed that the favorite ship of PvP rats are the Ravens. So my guess would be what is the best fitting for PvP when hunting Ravens? In the World of EVE, when you are PODDED, only your family can hear you scream as you are banging away at the keyboard..... |

This is true; the Blackbird is rather cruddy for NPC hunting. I much prefer my Rupture as it's just better in all respects (much like the Moa). But if you do want to NPC hunt it's a good platform for learning shield-tanking on. I have a rather weird setup that I like, I'm sure there are better one's out there, but I've been using this for fighting Angels up to 45/30/30 spawns:
3x 280mm Howitzers 1x M-12 Launcher 100MN Afterburner 2x Small Shield Boosters Thermal Hardner Webifier Med Cap Battery 2x Cap Relays
I haven't used this since the last patch, so not sure if the relays have been nerfed or not. Basically, small projectiles are awesome and take no cap or grid (and I have good skills). The M-12 is usually just defenders, some heavies or looted missiles if you feel like it. The 100MN AB is preferable to the 10MN MWD because you're a shield tank, you could just take a 10MN AB but then you're chasing cans all over and it sucks. Two small boosters are the same as one med and give you cap flexibility that one med doesn't. The thermal can be switched for an EM or whatever (I'm fighting angels). The webifier is in case you run into a tough spawn and need some space. The battery is because you want as much cap as possible (if you run out of cap and have a couple of cruiser rats on you start warping out ASAP).
Again, this is a weird setup, but I like it. The best part about it is it gave me an opportunity to learn more about shields and tanking, which has been pretty darn cool. If folks have other suggestions, I'd be happy to hear em.
Sure, everyone supports saving Einstein's brain, but when you put it in the body of a Great White Shark, suddenly you've "gone too far". |
