My Alt is pretty much all industry and I've been looking to get into R&D but never been bothered to raise standings (what with next to no fighting skills) so to hi-jack the thread a little, which agents give alot of mining missions, a few threads I've found indicate mining agents still give courier missions.

I didn't want to start a new topic so sorry for bringing this one back. This seems more appropriate anyways. I haven't done any missioning, and I've reached a point where I need a good amount of standing. So my questions are:
- Is the standing gain worth it? - Are level 4's solo-able for a character dedicated to mining?(No Combat) - How is the current state of mining missions? Have they improved in the last month? - Are combat missions still being given out by mining agents?

1. The standing gain is comparable to all but the biggest kill missions. Some weak mining missions give you standing, LP, etc comparable to a short kill mission while the biggest mining missions are comparable to about 2/3 of the biggest kill missions. I haven't checked the standings gains when I made this post, but I seem to recall standings gains corresponded to the mission rewards offered.
2. Absolutely, the bs rats were for 0.0 mission running. You will see rats of the type you normally see in the system. So high sec mining and the like should have easy rats in high sec. The biggest missions mine almost 45k m3 of material which is simple for a covetor or any of the exhumers to do.
3. You no longer can lose ore from filling up the hold. That's a big improvement. Still too many of the missions don't really have that much to offer. You mine the funny ore and maybe kill a few rats. There's usually not other ores present. One of the level 4's is relatively nice with a bit of hedbergite, but the rest of it is scordite and veldspar.
4. yes, I haven't checked the percentages, but I believe most mining agent missions are not mining missions. I use astrosurveyor agents. There, only a small portion of the missions are mining missions.

Just to point it out agai:
don't use mining drones in the mining missions
the rats love to kill the mining drones, and if a drone is destroided when loaded the mineral is lost.
It is the only system (barring players intervention) to fail the mission.
You lose 1 mining drone loaded with the special ore and you have no possibility to complete the mission unless the asteroid respawn (someday I will test if the asteroids respawn if you don't mine them all, but better stay on the safe side).

I run missions for an agent in the Mining division and he obviously mostly gives mining missions. This is great as I have a top tuned Hulk but poor skills for combat in a battleship.
I did a ice mining mission I did not manage to get it done before downtime. This made the ice amount in the special ice block reset to full so I ended up having some spare after the mission ended. I would expect the same to be true for the special asteroids. So if you have problems with "lost" ore (stolen or blown up), stop mining and come back after next down time. ---------------- Mr. Science & Trade Institute |

TY for the tip, for the next mining missions I get I will not complete them before DT (losing the bonus isn't so important) and stock up some spare minerals.

Edited by: Tasko Pal on 16/01/2008 09:58:44 Here's a good one. I had a new alt I was goofing with. Turns out that level 1 mining missions in 0.0 can get some large rats. So my velator has to tank a couple of bc (and a couple of frigs) while I extract 1080 m3 of augumene. Good times!
Added: and since it's deadspace, I warp in 15 km away from that darn roid.

Apart from the special encounters some of the mission have, the locations seem to work like regular belts when it comes to rats, so you'll get no rats in 1.0 and the big nasty ones out in 0.0

I had to run out of the room for a few moments and I lost some special Ore to space when my cargo bay filled up (more than once actually) and yet at the end I still somehow finished the mission with 45,000m3.
Also, the mission will reset each day at downtime. If you want you can get a mission, mine it out each day until the mission expires and then have a stockpile of special ore/ice for the future. I am not sure if this is an exploit or not.
On the time bonus: It was my first mining mission. I am not a miner, just saw an L4 mining agent available to me and thought I'd see what it was about. I had mining at L1. I got in an Osprey with Caldari Cruiser 3 and some T1/Named lasers and went to town on some Green Arisite, whilst at the same time training mining to L2. It took from 01:32 to 05:33. I missed the nearly million ISK time bonus by one minute. So sad. I was yelling at my hauler, "WARP WARP WARP." I think four hours is a fair amount of time. Is this atypical?
Soon I'll be able to run two accounts. Me and my alt, who is a miner, should be able to fill a can in about 20 minutes.

In the few times I have had to mine I've noticed that each spawn is stronger than the last. This may be coincidental but it seems like it happens to me every time.

All my mining missions have had rats corresponding to the belts. Without fail. I like these quite a bit as quite a few of them have effertons of mins. I mine them until my bonus is about to run out, and I've managed to pull 10 million trit from one of them, while still leaving about 1/2 to a 1/3 of the roids behind.
Key is, do them for a mining agent in a mining corporation. Those should pay the most - and yes, since most people are taking the time to mine these out, the LP is comparable to all but the hardest of the level 4 kills. _______________ Pwett CEO, Founder, & Executor <Q> QUANT Hegemony

Despite the message you get to the contrary, unrecoverable ore is not ejected into space. If you pull a cycle that won't completely fit in your hold, the excess ore remains in the roid. There are only two ways to lose mission ore - having it stolen or having a full mining drone get popped.

I hesitate to even ask this, but I've played around a little with the Eve Agent locator and haven't managed to track down any nearby mining agents in hi sec. I'm based in the Heimatar region and would like to try out some mining missions. The closest I can seem to find are either in 0.4 or Metropolis (which is somewhat close, I suppose, as it is still Minmatar Republic), but I dont' know how close that is.
Anyone have any advice on Corporations or systems?

Well for that region of space, your best luck with be Minmatar Mining Corporation. They have agents everywhere and a pretty nice Level 4 Q 17 one in a 0.5 or 0.6 system. Can't remember which, _______________ Pwett CEO, Founder, & Executor <Q> QUANT Hegemony

Yes, that is an important difference:
- when the miner "lose mineral to space" it is not really removed from the asteroid size.
- when it is lost because a mining drone was shot while returning to the ship loaded it is removed.

Please keep the mining missions away from non-mining agents. It is very annoying to block all available agents in an area with mining missions you can not complete (due to lack of skills).

Question for you Little Wolf...When you were mining that mission, do you recall if you got a 'mission complete' indicator at any time? I've found that nearly all lv 4 mining missions give a 'mission complete' indicator once the first cycle of ore is pulled from ANY roid (mission target roid or normal rocks surrounding the mission ore). There are a few ice missions and 'Bountiful Banidine' that do not get mission complete until you have the full amount of ore in your hold.
I only have 2 issues with mining missions. 1. If they don't respawn after DT if mission ore isn't fully cleared. No other mission will "complete" & not respawn until the mission objective is full completed. 2. I'd like to see a bit of variety on the ores that surround the mission objective ore. For the most part it is plain veld and sometimes plain scordite. How about some named stuff and some other empire ore. I've seen 1 mission with a little bit of Hedg and pyro. Can we get some missions chock full of (refinable) plagio, omber or pyro (maybe even kernite) for a change of pace? Some of the larger Lv 4 missions have 400-500k m3 of refinable veld/scordite, I don't think it would hurt to have missions with 300-400k m3 of the other empire ores. I'm not looking for fields of Arkonor or Crokite, just empire ore.
