Otherwise people are going to complain about battleships strip mining for the next 3 years.
SINCE you keep skills forever, then you can be a miner+battleship captain with excellent combat capabilities, and thats kind of unrealistic.
I'd say let skill fade from memory after 1 year, and you will have to retrain skills to keep them from fading. 1 year is a long enough.
There must have been a huge debate in the beta team about this. Who won?

no way that means your character will only always be a year old!

that's a really stupid idea, people put way too much time into training to just have it fade, and personaly I've gone through plenty of school and s**t dosen't just "fade" away.

I also went thru plenty of school and most of that **** does fade away. heh
On the subject: I agree with what this idea tries to accomplish. The old players have unfair advantage over younger players. It's a matter of preference, I guess. I prefer games where player skill determines who succeeds, not character skill. But even so, this is a bad idea. Think of some other way to achieve your desired effect.

If the skills will decay in time, the rank on allready learned skills need to go down, i.e. Minmatar BS skill would then become rank 1 since you only need to recap on your knowledge as opposed to re-learn it from scratch.
Allso If you fly a Minmatar BS all the time, the skill should not decay, since you should in fact get better at what you do, through experiance.
The skills are also a big part of the "investment" you make in eve and a reson to keep your subscription while not playing, so you can start again without haveing to go through all the training again in a year.

Not the brightest idea. Albeit there is some sense to the underlying reasoning.
It might be a good idea if "unused" skills evaporated/dropped in SP over time. This would reflect reality, but generally I dont believe its possible to make a system like that, atleast it would get very low piority.

Lets hunt and kill buggsi for coming up with such a bad idea. Wtf go play another game you are trying to ruin the absolute best thing in the game(one of many many things) and that is the skill system.
BAN pls.

Not a good plan. If I go to serve my country on deployment for 6 months, still pay $65 to maintain my accounts, and then return to a charater who "forgot" or was reduced in a bunch of skills, I would be in a rampage.

very bad idea. leave the skills as they are. if i start losing skills because my clone is crap, then fair enough. if they are taken from me i will stop playing.

yes, good idea. such ideas like losing skills over time shouldn't be put forward to the devs. keep them to your self!
and the older players do have an avantage than the newer players, but thats life. it happens every day at work! old people have a better advantage than younger people!

YEs, Great Idea.
If skills that where least used slowly lost skill points and at a certain level you would need a recap training session would be great.
It would add a little more realism to the game and even some things up.

Whilst i sympathise with the concept, NO WAY do I want the skills i have spent ALL YEAR training to diminish.
Not fair to paying and patient customers. ____________________________________________

I think buggsi needs to go and train to fly an interon mk V, and after the 30 days just to get lvl 5 of the indy skill have it decay so he has to retrain it... and this is one expample as new skills come out with higher ranks, there will be manny other skills to train that take that long... VERY BAD IDEA
