I know this might be a dumb question...but I am in the market for a new pvp ship and I was looking at the navy omen and the zealot. I know the zealot has a damage bonus over the navy, but the price tag is double. Should I not let the price sway me? |

That would depend on the size of your wallet.
In my opinion the Zealot is the superior ship for most encounters. When I check troll in the dictionary, it has a photo shopped picture of you standing somewhere in the vicinity of a point.
Also, I can kill you with my brain. |

Ships and modules is that way.
Anyway - depends on what you do with it - Zealot gains a range, rof and damage bonus on lasers and lacks a drone bay whilst being more skill intensive whereas the Navy Omen only gets a rof bonus (which is better than the zealots rof bonus), keeps a drone bay, has more base EHP, worse resistances, an additional High- and Rigslot more CPU and less grid.
All in all, the Zealot is the better gang-pvp ship whereas the Navy Omen may be better for pve under most circumstances... morons- sting like a butterfly and-ápost like a bee. |

Depends on your gang composition, for mixed small gang / solo I would take the navy omen with FMPs based on price and having a drone bay. You buffer and resist fit it but watch your back because everyone loves a navy kill.
If you have a larger organized fleet then the Zealot can fit in both long range shield sniper gangs (although you don't see these very often) or in close range afterburner fit armor HAC gangs with logistic support. Both of these rely on good team work though. The only time I would take a normal pulse zealot out in a mixed gang would go to a gate / drag bubble camp where you can run away if you need to, because the Zealot would be high up the primary target list due to its damage.
Or you can just fly a harbinger which is cheaper, tougher and requires less effort. CCP Nullarbor | Exotic Dancer |

I prefer flying the Navy issue Omen, only cause it has drones. When your tackled by an inty or frigate you just unleash the hounds and burn them down.
Another reason is if you fit the omen with some heatsinks your rate of fire goes through the roof. It gives epic uzi effect!
lowslots: DC2, EANM, Heatsinks50% / Tracking Enhancers50% (or less, if you want even more RoF). note; do fit medium pulse lasers.
The only reason i use a zealot for is when flying armor hac fleets, which i never do actually! :P GÇ£Quod licet Iovi non licet boviGÇ¥- Gods may do what cattle may not."-á--á"We are all slaves of the economy." - "Information in eve is the black gold back in the industrial age". |

Also, some times indication how fast a certain fit performs a certain mission would also be very nice. I know I am asking ally, especially since I am asking a Dev, but we all want this game to be as enjoyable as possible. This is my signature. There are many like it, but this one is mine. |

The Navy Issue Omen looks WAY sexier than the normal one. That is the main reason I bought it.

Go with Dev Nullabor. Only thing I would add to this all is the standard "Don't fly what you cannot afford to lose" dictum.

Put enuff dmg and tracking on the zealot and you can sh*** on the drones.. zealot has quite more resistance bonus and dmg bonus .. Its up to you what kind of pvp you want to do ..
Anyway I dont think the dev or any other pilot will post a fitting with a dmg graph compairing to kinds of fighting ... Just go on Sisi and try it out.

You shouldn't start asking yourself the question "what ship to use" and then put the choice between two. When you decide ships to fly you rather ask yourself, primarily, what role you will fill.
How many are you in fleet? What kind of fleet composition (light, heavy, mixed, what kind of tacklers, tank conformity) - this btw is something you should know before fleet form up too, and you should follow FC's requested fits and nothing else (if you're not going to fly what the fleet need, you might as well fly solo as people will expect you to be able to do something you can't, i.e. at best you're useless, at worst a liability).
The obvious questions too, 'can I afford to lose (many of) these'? And 'do I have the skills to fit/fly this ship properly'? And also 'will I enjoy flying this'?
Without making it too complicated, what every new PvP pilot should try get get as soon as possible, to get a good allround spread for combat: t2 small/medium guns (or standard/rocket/HML if faildari), t2 light/medium drones, all core fitting and navigation skills 4, one frigate 5 to go with interceptor 4, and bc 4. Interceptor, cheap t1 tackle frigate + BC is a very good allround starter setup. After that you build on what you enjoy/want to do.
But if you are asking yourself "NI Omen or Zealot", then you don't know what kind of combat you will do, you don't know fleet composition, and ultimately you are very likely to die alot in poorly set up fleets if you are starting in that end. this is a signature |
