BACKGROUND: I have a Caracal. The Caracal is fitted with Malkuth type I heavy missle launchers. My skills have upgraded and I have invested in Fury Type II Heavy Missles which, to my dismay, cannot be loaded into the Malkuth Type I launcher.
QUESTION(S): 1. Do Type II missles always require Type II launchers? (i.e. is the only solution to my problem to also upgrade to Type II launchers?) 2. How might I have known this from looking at the Missle's info?(Malkuth launchers ain't cheap.) 3. If # 1. & 2. above are 'yes,' if a player intends on upgrading in the future to Type II missles, should they not buy Type II launchers from the get go? (i.e. will Type II launchers shoot Type I heavy missles in the interim while the character trains misle skills?)

Let me get you started here first off the items you refer to as type 2 are known as tech 2, as in tech level 2.
Tech 2 missile launchers and guns can fire tech 1, tech 2 and faction ammo.
Tech 1 weapons, named, faction and so on, can fire tech 1 and faction ammo.
Now as regards skill requirements, to be able to use tech 2 missiles at all you will have the requirements to use the tech 2 launchers.
e.g. Heavy Missile launcher II and tech 2 ammo requires Heavy Missiles level 5 and Heavy Missile Specilization level 1
so if you can use the missiles, you can use the launchers.

Yes t2 ammo requires t2 launchers. And yes, t2 launchers can use t1 ammo.
Suggestion: forget about t2 ammo and use faction with your t2 launchers (to get that spec skill dmg bonus).

do you not get the spec skill damage bonus with standard tech 1 missiles aswell?

Answers:
1 - Yes, T2 ammo will only fit in T2 launchers, but you can use faction ammo in T1 launchers.
2 - If you look at the item info there is a 'chargegroup' category, a T2 launcher will say 'Advanced missile', this corresponds to the item description. (I'm not logged in but it is something like this)
3 - The skill requirements for T2 launchers does mean you cannot fit T2 launchers from the off, for example in your case you need Heavy Missile 5 and 'Heavy Missile Spec' 1 before you can fit the T2 launcher.
T2 launchers will fire T1 missiles
Named T1 launchers are better than the T1 in that they have lower fitting reqs and better rof.
Arbalest launchers have the same base rof as T2, but the T2 have higher capacity (i think), and the specialistaion skills makes the T2 rof better. The T2 does have higher fitting requirements though.

Its called tech2 not type2. And yes tech2 missiles always require a tech2 launcher.
But before you go buying t2 launchers note that you need proper skills to use (i.e. fit) them. If you do a show info on your desired launcher and click the requirements tab it should show you which skills you need.

You need to look into the description of the missiles, not the launchers. There it sais you can only use those with tech2 launchers.

You can load and shoot tech1 missiles in a tech2 launcher. A situation where one can use tech2 launchers but not tech2 missiles does not exist.
