CCP said the upgrade would take 24 hours. Well, they LIED! It was only a little over 20 hours.
I demand an apology for this outrage!
Also, I should be charged extra on my sub for this inexcusable addition of uptime.
If the above two actions are not taken, I will quit this game.
No, you can't have my stuff.

Yep, they well an truly lied. It been how long since they started patching? And still the patch has not be deployed properly.
Oh yeah, the servers are up but there is no way that any professional software engineer would claim that the patch is deployed.

Sadly, I too was affected by this serious oversight by CCP. I filled my schedule with real life activities during the proposed downtime , and had to make ill prepared excuses to flee from them when I got word of the short downtime.
Also, I lost quite a bit of isk in the corp patch-downtime pool we had going. I put 250mil on the slot for 36-40 hours of downtime. Since no one picked a time less than 24 hours, this has caused considerable grief and a large rift in my corp is now evident.

Well, it's nice for you fanboiz. But, I'm sure there are a LOT of people who aren't tech saavy, didn't read the boards, and had their BOOT.INI destroyed because:
- The dev that named it was stupid.
The dev that wrote the update code was sloppy.
Those asking for in-game compensation are just whiners, yes. But, let's not minimize the actual cash that many people are going to have to pay to get their machines bootable again.

We don't want to hear about how CCP is teh L0zorz.
Or how people got hurt. We already KNOW. We're just having a little fun here. I sympathize with those who got snagged by the bug. I even tried to help some of them. The fact that people went out of their way to warn others and people helped fix the boot.ini problem for others (including myself, I needed someone else's help to fix it as well), shows that the EVE community is a good place.... hell I even warned members of a corp I'm at war with.
The devs and CCP work damn hard to make sure EVE is everything it can be. It's not perfect, no game ever is, it's pretty damn good though and by far one of my favourite games. People need to stop complaining. You pay less than you would for a pint of beer per week for this game and you dare to complain that it causes a slight glitch... yeah sure, people may not understand the boot.ini problem but all it takes is to stick the windows disc back in the computer next time you boot up (assuming you have a legit windows copy, cough cough, you can't prove anything).
Stop moaning and enjoy the game....
.....oh and CCP, don't think because I like you I'm not expecting you to pay me back those 4 hours you stole. You're still on my list.
