ive watched a couple of movies and it seems most high end players seem to use projectile weapons(i think thats what they use).
Wheres all the laser weapons? are they any good?
i always like watching big ion beams shoot across space like in homeworld.
is there anything like that in eve? or is it all pee-shooter type weapons like in x2?

Yep - there are lasers. The battleship variety come in a few different types, the nastiest of which are Tachyons. The disadvantage to these is the huge power requirement and cap usage. However thay can pack a decent punch and hit from some distance too

Most players will not use Laser weapons in PvP because they are easy to defend against (EM and Thermal hardeners)
Projectiles have can do 4 kinds of damage compared to Lasers 2 kinds.
Lasers are used mostly for PvE and saves on ammo costs

so is there any big ion beam guns?
on the back of the eve box the top left pic has a big brown ship shooting a big ion beam gun.

Not certain but you are probably thinking of a Tachyon gun. Tachs are the biggest damage dealer of all energy weapons.
The other reason PvPers use projectiles is they are very low on cap usage compared to any other weapon (except missiles). That leaves a lot of cap leftover of shield buffs and other stuff.

Gotta agree, You see firing a laser turret takes from your cap, so that means less other things you can do like web, scammble, distrupt, shield boost, armor repair, ect...
Also dont a lot of people start with small projectile training and nothing in hybrid or laser? (I know i started with just project) So I have been to lazy to try other weapons. I might try a mix of both, as some times it really pays to be more flexible than just specialized.
