Hey guys,
Im considering to purchase a new computer and i 'm curious what you guys use in order to use Trinity smoothly and dual logged. Im unaware what all these new dual and quad core processors can do, so im easily talked into buying something that only makes a storekeeper happy if you get what I mean. What specs need I think about? ***

Well, a good gfx card will take you a long way, I suggest you wait a while for the new GeForce 8xxx series, I know they are released, but new models are arriving in January. Then RAM: 4 Gig of Ram, DDR2, Dual Channel OS: 64-bit OS, I like Vista, others don't thats up to you. CPU: Dual Core, Quad Core is hyped, and is useless atm as no application uses it. MoBo: Anything new, that supports Core 2 Duo is good, I like Asus Other pheripherals are your choice, as Audio and monitors. Good Luck.

Depends on your budget but....
C2D 6750 P35 based motherboard (maybe get nvidia if you want sli in future) 2Gb RAM (minimum, also depends on OS) 8800GT 500Gb Samsung Spinpoint
How much you're willing (and able) to spend will dictate what you get. =============================================
My sig got edited, and all i got was a lousy e-mail |

Edited by: Ryysa on 07/12/2007 12:05:27 That graphics card is useless. Avoid it like the plague, the bare minimum is a 8600 GT. (No point to upgrade to crap).
With 2 GB ram OS should be Windows XP or Linux. Vista is **** anyway.
Also, dump your "sound blaster" card, the integrated cards on today's motherboards are miles ahead of your dinosaur.

It's rather funny actually. There was an ú1000+ Packard Bell 'Extreme Gaming Desktop' on display at the store where I work. It came complete with everything: Transparent+Neon Lit Case, Intel QC EXTREME Qsomethingrather CPU, 4GB ram, 1TB SATA-II HDD, 800W PSU, Vista Premium, etc etc...
...and an 8600GS
I installed a copy of Crysis on it for display purposes, but the frames were < 30 even on minimum settings. I uninstalled it very quickly because of this, but on second thought I should have left it so customers looking for an actual gaming PC knew to avoid it. -----

Don't get 64-bit Windows IMO; I have a friend who got one recently and the compatibility problems are still quite aggravating. Its not as big a deal on Linux since most programs are open source.
Avoid Vista like the plague; get XP 32-bit.
For a processor, any Core 2 Duo/Quad is good, and 2GB of RAM is of course good.
For the graphics card, if you can, get the 8800GT; its a really really good deal.

My gaming PC can't deal properly anymore with the latest games that have been coming out for the last year (including Trinity with everything turned on), but I heard that early 2008 Nvidia is coming out with a new generation of graphics cards (which will in turn push down the price of the current 8800 family), so I was thinking of waiting it out a bit more before I upgrade and play Crysis / Bioshock / etc.
Anyway, I don't closely follow hardware news that much anymore, so I may be mistaken about Nvidia's future plans - does anyone have better information on this?

There's always new bits on the horizon, a couple of months back it wsa rumoured the 8800GT's that have come out were actually going to be the 98xx series (or whatever Nvidia are gonna call them).
A couple of weeks after the 8800GT's had come out and decimated everything that you could throw at them, Nvidia have created the 8800GTS, which is slightly quicker than the aforementioned 8800GT, but you'll only notice this when using high res or amazingly high AA/AF settings.
The same is true of ATI/AMD, they've just released the 3850/70 and they have already announced that in the new year they will be sticking two of these together on the same board for (roughly) double the performance (like Nvidia did with the 7950).
If you keep waiting for new stuff to be released as it will push down the price of the current crop then you'll never get anything, as the big three AMD/ATI, Intel and Nvidia will constantly be making press releases about their new products.
I havent even mentioned PCI-E 2.0 yet, only a few boards support this at present (X38 based), but this is the next level the gfx cards will be developed for, so when you come to upgrade you may think about waiting a bit longer for this to become more mainstream.
The best plan is to get a budget, set a cut-off date and at that time bite the bullet and go for it. It's great to have the best stuff, but there will always b something on the horizon that bit quicker. =============================================
