k-i only been playing for 2 weeks and decided to try some piracy-i kitted out kestrel with very basic stuff and went to a 0.2 area I scanned and saw abandoned cruisers and shuttles so i decided to check it out-when i got there at a moon it was like this afk set up There was a forcefield so i couldnt get to the ships and sentry guns and a control tower and spatial disruption battery and other stuff-iu didnt know what they all did so i info them all-neway i decided to atack the spatial dirpupt thing cos it messed with my targetting-i couldnt do bugger all dmg and it kept jamming me up-so after a while i warped out and then warped back in-when i came back i tried again but this time for some reason the control tower attacked me and owned me real fast so my questions are 1) wtf was this set up? 2) how do i get through forcefield? 3) wat should i have done?

It's called a POS-Player Owned Station
1) Yes people set these up and they can maintain ship hangar's labs, and other devices.
2) You don't
3) warp away and not come back ôHe who must expend his life to prolong life cannot enjoy it, and he who is still seeking for his life does not have it and can as little enjoy it.ö

It was a POS (Player Owned Station), a structure a player corporation can build near a moon.
The only system to pass the force field is to know the password or to deliver several millions h od damage to destroy it,. The POS will then go in reinforce mode putting up a indestructible forcefield for a time dependent on the fuel in the tower (more than a day generally). If no one has come to defend the tower it will then be possible to kill it doing again several millions hp of damage.
About the guns not firing on you the first time it is possible you were graced by one of the POS bugs. Depending on the settings you should have been fired upon as soon as you warped in or as soon as you started firing on the structure.
To destroy a POS will require some Dreadnaught or a big group of BS and some hour to put it in reinforced mode, then another expedition with a similar strenght to destroy it.

If you continue to attack POSes solo, you might want to consider a name change. This is not meant as a flame.

Ya, perhaps "Dies Often" is what you had in mind.

This link will tell you more than you need to know about POS and will answer question #1.
Beginners Guide to POS
As to #2 and #3 - I think they've been answered already, as a solo player, all you can really do is fly away. Depending on the setup, the POS will either fire on anyone who is hostile, anyoneone who is not friendly (includes neutrals) or anyone who makes an aggressive act.
First time you got lucky, second time the POS reacted the way I would expect if you shot at it. These things cost hundreds of millions to setup and run, and can only be setup by corporations. Of course they're going to have some defences to prevent anyone from just blowing it up.
Destroying one takes considerable effort and will take several days for even the biggest fleets to destroy (they go into a reinforced mode after a while, so that the defenders have time to gather their forces for a fight). POS attack/defence is one common form of a fleet action.
Cheers Falka
