However, the way most software companies do this is by making the updates additive, not by "nerfing" and changing basic mechanics of the game constantly. Had Trinity simply been about the very impressive additional graphics, the addition of new and improved ships and modules, fixed Jita, or just made interface improvements, you wouldn't hear many complaints. So, the problem is NOT change, it's the way CCP, specifically, makes changes.
On balance, well, it depends on what you're talking about I suppose. If, for example, your idea of balance is that each race can be successful in the game, or that there are multiple ways a player can succeed in the game, then I agree that balance is vital. If what you're saying is that, for example, all the races need a short range gank battleship, then I disagree. At least insofar as that is not a justification to slap a "rule" change unto thousands of players who have been operating under a particular set of assumptions. The races SHOULD be different as this is what creates more variety in the game. Then the players choose what race will best suit their game strategy.
There's a lot of complaints on the forums about "whining." Usually just an immature label to apply to a differing opinion. There's a lot of calls to "adapt." Which is another way to say the consumer should work around a poor decision made by CCP. I'm not sure why so many seem so uncomfortable with the idea that the company should take into account the concerns of the players. My understanding is that MANY on the test servers made it known that several proposed changes in Trinity were not great ideas. They were ignored. CCP has not acknowledged the complaints since Trinity at all that I have seen. This less offensive then the legitimate gripes of paying customers? I pretty much ignore the rest of the post as soon as I see the "W" word used.
Eve can be a great game. It really can be a lot of fun and well done overall. But it does take a considerable time investment, by design. CCP has to take that time investment into consideration before they make the decisions on how to update the system. They don't do that one thing very well, and THAT's what causes frustration, not change itself. Game technology should evolve, not suddenly take huge, illogical leaps backwards. Balance by moving forward if you must, not by moving back.
