I heard people say CCP are planning on installing a new supercomputer to run Tranquility. What kind of hardware are they planning and when is it going to happen?
Any news links etc

Not much in the way of information on it yet, but CCP is working together with IBM to construct a massive supercomputer that will be one of the largest in Europe.
But remember folks, CCP doesn't care about lag! ---------------- Tarminic - 29 Million SP in pink Forum Warfare |

Yeah, they haven't released much, other than some backend things, like ultra-high-speed connections between each node; can't think of the specifics at the moment.
I'm sure they'll let us know more when they've finalized the details a little more. At this point, I'm sure it's just the brains at IBM trying to decide what the best combination of components is given Eve's requirements, which are quite unique.

One thing is that it'll be able to dynamically change which nodes are doing which systems, so if a giant fleet jumps in and starts a siege, it doesn't take until downtime for the sieged system to get more silicon behind it, the server will automatically give it more.
Also, using infiniband will help with inter-node communication a lot. -----sig-starts-here------ Ok I need a new sig so...

The most info that's been put out was in Hilmar's keynote speech at the fanfast.
Linkage
Select Hilmar's video and the supercomputer info starts around 18:00.

because lofty clearly knows the ccp server specs
i will say add another 0 to that number and you might have enough ps3s.... although it would be cheaper to just bootleg hook up some mobos and lots of ram sticks, dont need no fancy graphics. prolly want some hdds in there too as eve db must be large
