So, who else thinks those who invented but can't build the ships would have been better off selling their datacores?

Really its hard to say. I'm sure that first bpc sales have been good. And I think everyone knew, except perhaps bpc buyers, that construction itself would not be possible for at least a week. (I think).

Why? If it's the "people haven't trained BS Construction IV yet",, I trained freighter 5 before I'd heard about jump freighters,, I think it's just a failing to not anticipate CCP expanding content to require the higher skill levels.

The difference here is that Freighters V has been in the game for over a year. The Battleship Construction skillbook has been in the game for under 10 days (trinity release).
So it's not a failing on the customerbase as they had no ability ayway.

BS construction has been in the since before it just had no use before. I think it gave 5% mineral cost reduction for building BS prior to trinity

I stand gombsmackingly corrected.
I wonder why it was never seeded? There's Cruiser and frigate construction, thought BS construction would've been in that too :/ Oh well.

Mmh, think that's what confused me about industry at first,, you *don't* need Cruiser Construction skill to make Cruisers. While the other science skills make sense, you'd think they'd have named it Advanced Cruiser Construction or something. Oh well.

Datacores are a longer term factor. They will be used no matter what you invent, so you have to stockpile them anyway, like you have to do with minerals and T2 materials.
What you can't do with invention is a little bit of it - that is if you want to see anything from it! You either do it a lot (read a full time production line) or you don't do it at all. And you need a shed load of capital and then some too.
For me however, the business case for T2 BS's specifically isn't good enough (not enough margin), though I will be able to make them. Why not enough margin? Because I predict it'll be like Ravens: cutthroat and single-digit margins. I just can't see a price for a Golem maintaining a 1b+ price tag for it to be profitable enough for me to get out of bed and do it --- meh. |
